Minecraft: Pocket Edition Delayed Due To Last Minute Bugs

16

A few days ago we told you guys about the scheduled Thursday release of Minecraft: Pocket Edition for all Android devices. Well, it’s Thursday and if you’ve been feverishly searching through your Android Market looking for Minecraft PE, you may have noticed it’s nowhere to be found.

So what is up? Well, according one of the game’s developers, Daniel Kaplan, he Tweeted some not so good news for all you Android crafters out there.

Yikes!! We found a nasty bug in Minecraft – Pocket Edition that needs to be fixed before release! Im not sure it will come out today :(

He also went on to tweet some more information regarding which devices will be compatible with the game once it launches.

Minecraft – PE will work on Android 2.2+ but cant promise it will in the future since we are going to add new stuff all the time! We will update the Demo of Minecraft – PE so you can try it out before you buy. But I would recommend a 1ghz+ phone with fast gpu.

So there you have it, folks. Hopefully Minecraft Pocket Edition wont be delayed for too much longer. It’s always possible it could still make its deadline sometime today (cross your fingers) but I don’t want to get your hopes up. Either way, we’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as it becomes available.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. This is another one of those viral games that I never understood the appeal for.

    1. you really gotta try it out to understand

      1. I have tried it. I don’t make statements that I don;t understand why something goes viral without at least trying the thing. That would be ignorant.

        1. If you download the game off the internet, you can play single-player for free; surprisingly, this version is mod-able. Why don’t you try modding a free version to add content? Some of the mods add functionality to items, others give you better movement options, and still others can completely change the way the game acts. For instance, there’s a Portal mod with its own graphics and items; I’ve seen Team Fortress, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead; you name it, it’s probably there somewhere. Even Pokemon has its own mod. Why not give it another go?

        2. Minecraft is a game you have to take your time with.

      1. Thanks for that riveting and intellectually stimulating statement. Clearly I am the jackass here…

  2. Hope my N1 can run it, else I;ll have to wait till I get my NP

Hope it becomes an amazon app of the day soon too, sicne I can;t buy apps

    1. Nope, GPU is too weak, and the lack of proper multi touch will make the controls awkward.
maybe root it and get a bluetooth controller?

  3. so is this going to work on any phone now?

what changed? i thought it was sony experia play only

    1. Xperia Play had the exclusive. It’s coming out for the rest of us now. Well– soon. =p

  4. Nice, can’t wait to try this out. Never played before, but definitely willing to try on my sensation!

  5. Will this work with the new samsung player 5.0?

    1. Yes, the Samsung Player 5.0 has a Dual Core CPU and a good GPU. It should run Minecraft PE at a very good speed

  6. Would it work on a year old Droid 2 Global? I play MineBuilder With Ease… And other large game files
