Perfect Timing: Samsung Epic 4G Touch Source Code Now Available

16

Well, that was a lot quicker than what we were expecting (but trust us, we aren’t complaining). The Samsung Epic 4G Touch is now out in stores and online and Samsung has made the source code available at their developer portal for all to download. With this, the hardworking Android development community will be able to get started on all the custom ROMs you could want. Root’s still not here yet (Motorola’s after-market community has that on lock) but we can’t imagine it won’t be worked on ASAP. If you yourself want the source code in the meantime, head to Samsung’s portal and do a search for D710. [Pocketnow]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  3. I literally whispered “oh shxtt…” O_o haha this is good newss WOOHOO, man this phone is already great, but it gets better?! customs ROMs here we go. :)

  4. Can someone please explain to me what this means????? Thanks

    1. Having access to the source code means you have access to the phone from beginning to end. Developers will produce custom ROMs, you’d be able to tether for free.. and you can overclock your processors and do 10 million crazy things using this code. CyanogenMod is a perfect example of what this means!

      1. so doing so would void any warranty?

        1. yes, yes it would, and thanks for raining on that parade o-O

        2. Not really, you can always flash it back to stock and then you have the warranty again.

  5. This is why I want a Samsung phone right now. Wide open. Hurry up and put a custom kernel on that thing. Free wired and wireless tethering please. Built in overclock please.

  6. Well its good Motorola’s after-market community has root on lock..

    1. Make that Tuesday. Lol Sprint shipped it UPS ground instead of next day air. :(

      1. That sucks, never heard of them doing that. Do you live really close to the distribution center?

        1. UPS doesn’t really update their websites on the weekend, Friday said it was in Kenutcky, I live in MD. If by some chance if it makes to MD tomorrow, then i’m driving up there…lol I think I will just wait till they deliver it, i’ve waited this long.
