Leaked Verizon MAP Reveals Motorola DROID Bionic’s Pricing After 2-Year Agreement

37

The guys over at Droid-Life managed to snag this leak of a Verizon MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) listing Motorola’s upcoming DROID Bionic for the low, low price of $300 with a 2-year agreement. The leak also confirms that heavily rumored September 8th launch date. Yesterday we discovered the Bionic’s full price at $589 and it seems 300 is the new price point for Verizon’s premium handsets ever since the Droid Charge debuted a few months ago. Factor in taxes and you’re spending a pretty penny to have a piece of Motorola’s latest gadgetry. Can I see some hands of who will still be picking this up come Thursday morning on the 8th?

  1. Waiting to hear details on the Galaxy S2 first. The lack of a 4.5″ screen on the Bionic was a massive disappointment.

    1. What about the Droid HD?

      1. Who cares it will be locked down too.

        1. I do wish those on cell phone fan sites would realize most people in the world don’t care about a phone being locked down. I happen to be one of those people. Not a factor.

          1. Then why do you care what I buy??

          2. I care, Chris125. I care…

          3. Us Chris’s need to stick together lol

          4. … Uh, I never said anything that could be taken as me caring about what you buy. What are you talking about?

      2. Looks good based on what I’ve seen so far but I’m curious as to a date and all that.

      3. Droid HD might as well be a mini tab…anything over 4.3 is too big…at least for my carny hands. sgs2…if you come, please dont be too modified!

        1. Personally, I want a 5″ phone. Then I could probably ditch my 7″ tablet.

  2. ugh … $300? i need a new phone so bad tho … my original DROID touchscreen is flaking out bad these days

Doesn’t the S2 come out the same day tho?

    1. Galaxy S II will most likely be a $50 to $100 cheaper than this with the “same” specs. Don’t forget the launch of the Droid HD is also around the corner which will most likely be priced at the $300 and bump the Bionic down to $250. *whew*

  3. I wouldn’t pay that much for bionic before checking out what SGS2, Revolution 2, Prime would be like.

    1. Agree ill wait and see what they all offer

  4. what happened to subsidized pricing haha. Well anyway at least there are 3rd party sellers but i have to say these companies like taking their early adopters to the cleaners. It’ll be interesting to see what a new iphone comes in at, have they ever been over 199 for entry level?

If people would just vote with their wallets for a month and let the sales bomb there would be a quick price reduction and less likely to try this in the future. But thanks to America’s “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality they are always willing to bend over and take it.

    1. I don’t know who the Joneses are — but they better not have a better phone than me o_O

    2. Apple has consistently been at 199/299 with their 16/32GB iPhones over the past few years. Will be interesting to see if that trend continues. They have the same strategy with their other products as well. Refreshes cost the same as the old version while the old version drops in price to clear out inventory. F Verizon and their attempt to milk their customers. Billions of dollars per quarter not enough profits??

  5. I’ll be waiting to see what the sgsII holds at this price. Maybe even beyond.

  6. If you wait a week or so some retailer online will have the phone for almost half the price. Happens all the time.

  7. But the question AshleeNicole09044 is would you be willing to pay $299 for this phone? Hmmmm? Better yet I have a better deal for you just click on this link –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&feature=fvst

    1. It shows a video preview. *smh* =p

    2. The spammer has become the spam-ee.
Oh how the Mighty have fallen!

  8. You guys realize you used to pay the same prices for Razors? Cell phone prices havent really went up the last ten years while tthe technology has boomed. While $300 is overpriced for the current market I wouldnt doubt that we may see thebcustomer absorb this cost in more phones to come. (Including The iPhone5)

    1. True, but unlike with the razrs we weren’t paying an additional $30 a month.

But I get what you’re saying.

  9. $300? No thanks. I’ll wait a bit and it’ll be 1c on Amazon before you know it. Still using my original Droid and it’s running fine so no rush for me. Plus that’ll give it time to really get discussed and see if it’ll be unlocked, etc.

    1. I got my first Droid1 in December of 2009. By October of ’10, the touchscreen was all messed up, and I couldn’t really use it. I still had the warranty, so I got a new one. About a week ago, the second Droid starting doing the same thing. The touchscreen just magically feels things that aren’t there and goes crazy all the time. Getting the Droid Bionic the day it comes out because I need a new phone. Anyone else have this problem with the Droid1? I figure I can’t be the only one since it happened on both of my phones.

      1. My boss had the same exact issue and finally gave up and went with the HTC Thunderbolt.

      2. I have this exact issue with my droid right now … just trying to hold out long enough to get the Bionic or S2.

It’s hard tho … this past weekend the touchscreen was freaking out and it managed to call an ex-girlfriend! :D

      3. Same thing here. I can hardly use the thing. Its been going on for about 3 months. I have been damn patient, the bionic better be worth the wait.

  10. is that with the laptop dock??? probably not…

  11. The Droid HD is “around the corner” if early next year means that.

  12. I’ll wait and see what the reviews are like. If every blog says this phone is the best thing ever, I’m willing to pay $300. Somehow I don’t feel like that will be the case though. :/

  13. Did anyone notice it’s not listed as a DROID in the MAP? The MAP is showing it without the DROID moniker, but has it for the other DROID phones

  14. I’ll wait until October or November. My OG Droid from launch day is still powerful. I know I can still tether which I need once in a while. I will not pay $300 for a crappy Droid Bionic with what is coming out the next month or so. Bionic will be free once HTC and Samsung launch their phones. Bionic will pay $300 to take it once the iPhone 5 launches. People will not be happy with their purchase a couple weeks later if they buy the Bionic.

  15. I paid $249 for my OG Droid in November of 2009. Why wouldn’t I spend $50 more on the Bionic?? I was paying $30 per month back then (and now) for 3G coverage, and still will be $30 for 4G :-)

IMO, you can’t go wrong. If the Bionic lasts me 2 years, that’s an average of what, about $13 a month for the hardware.

Bottom line, if you don’t have the cash to buy one of these or have to B&M about it costing SO MUCH, then go get a Fascinate while they’re on sale ;-)

  16. If they were selling it for $200, I’d be first in line.

But at $300? There are so many new devices in the rumor mill (including the Droid HD with an even larger screen) that I’m hesitant to throw down quite that much cash right now.

However, if Amazon Wireless has another one of their sweet sales, it still could happen.
