TouchWiz UX Update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (WiFi) Is Now LIVE

19

It’s only a few minutes after 12AM and the TouchWiz UX update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is right on time and officially live. The update brings a few added features and a “love it or hate it” TouchWiz skin on top of the normally stock Honeycomb experience. Some of these new features include:

  • Live Panel: Magazine-like widget view for immediate access to weather, social updates, email, news, photo gallery, all on the home screen. The visual layout of Live Panel is completely customizable for one-touch entry into each user’s most important information.
  • Mini Mode Tray: One-touch access to commonly used applications–Task Manager, Calendar, World Clock, Pen Memo, Calculator, Music–which overlay in a pop-up window on display screen for powerful multi-tasking.
  • Clipboard: Advanced copy & paste functionality allows Galaxy Tab 10.1 users to store photos, Web pages, YouTube links, etc., on the clipboard for easy sharing via email and social network sites.
  • Indicator Quick Panel: Quickly toggle on/off Wi-Fi, notifications, sound, brightness and settings in lower right hand corner of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 display.
  • Photo Editor: Rotate, crop and adjust colors on high quality digital images

The update will also bring about a Samsung Media Hub redesign, Social Hub has been added, as well as Amazon Kindle, Music Cloud Player and Words with Friends. Other enhancements include Kies 2.0 support and enterprise solutions.

If you haven’t been prompted yet, simply go into your device Settings, About Tablet, System Updates and you can take it from there. As always, make sure your tab is connected to a power outlet or you have a full battery charge before updating.

Thanks, Dima!

    1. Keep checking! Maybe you have to wait until midnight =p

  2. I like the light additions that Samsung and Lenovo have whipped up on their Honeycomb tabs.

    1. Yeah, I don’t like how Sony effed up the app drawer on their S1/S2 tabs.. >:/

  3. Downloads, but fails to install :/

  4. It worked for me its amazing! So much smoother. If it downloaded but didn’t install go back to the update page and press update again thats what I did and it worked after that

  5. Can you uninstall the update and get back to stock honeycomb if you prefer?

  6. Worked for me at 11:30pm. Las Vegas, NV. I read about “Cisco VPN” as a new feature with this update, but I don’t see anything referring to “Cisco” on my tab. There are VPN options, but it’s not an official Cisco client. Am I missing something, or is that just how it is?

Also, I purchased V for Vendetta from the Media Hub with a Media Hub credit that I already had. It redeemed it, downloaded it, but it will not play. I rebooted the tab twice, and it still just freezes up. I get a black screen, and I can pull up movie controls, but it will not play. I can seek to a different time in the file, but it still shows nothing. =

  7. Still not working for me.

  8. Not working for me 8:15am MST, Google I/O limited edition version.

  9. Be careful and don’t update if you use folders in your Chrome Bookmarks. Folders are not syncing and actually is causing the sync on the tablet to fail. The old stock browser worked perfectly with folders and bookmark bar. This issue is being confirmed also on the thread at http://www.droid-life.com. Put the pressure on Samsung to correct this major issue that should have been tested.

  10. By the way I just got official confirmation from @SamsungCarla that the IO edition will NOT be getting this update

    1. WHAT!?!? Not sure if that makes me happy or angry…

  12. Is this update only for the WiFi Tabs or does Verizon’s 4G LTE tab getting this as well

  13. None of my HD content will play back after the update. What gives Samsung?

  14. got the i guess unofficial touchwiz ux on my acer iconia for like a month now, got to love custom roms :-p

  15. I am glad they updated TouchWiz on the Galaxy Tab! It had a few bugs before, and now it is even better! I got my Galaxy Tablet delivered just yesterday and the update came just in time. Of course the main reason that I bought one was for portability, and it is perfect for the DISH Remote Access app. As a customer and employee of DISH Network, I have been using the DISH Remote Access app to stream live TV and recorded shows from my 722k receiver that has a Sling Adapter, and I love being able to watch TV when and where I want. I paid only $99 for my Sling Adapter. However, I know that anyone who has DISH Network can now qualify to get a free Sling Adapter! Here is all the information!

  16. I’m having the same problem as DRH… I downloaded and installed the update but my movie that I downloaded from Media Hub won’t play. It shows a black screen only alog with the video controls. What gives Samsung? Anyone know how to fix this?
