Google Dictionary Has Been Abducted by Aliens

21

Farewell, dictionary. Actually, I didn’t even know it existed. But I’ll miss it all the same. However, if you didn’t know, just typing “[word] definition” or “define: [word]” in a Google Search bar will still yield the results you seek. Unless you like browsing full dictionaries just for the hell of it, in which case I say “god bless your heart.” [Engadget]

    1. Same here, if I need to define something I just type define and then the word in Google.

      1. Same.

When I’m mobile, though I use this cool dictionary app: SnaPanda

  2. Google’s ‘define:’ keyword sucks now.
Although I also wasn’t aware of the dictionary, but ‘define:’ was a real life saver, used to offer a lot of other options and definitions related to a word, but now, it just sucks.
I wish they get it back :-/

  8. not quite the same but you can use the following as a replacement where %s is the search term (used twice):
    http://www.google.com/search?&ie=UTF-8&q=define+%s#hl=en&q=%s&tbs=dfn:1&fp=1

  9. I’m still getting good definaitions. I don’t get what has changed, then again I didn’t use it too much before.

  12. I searched the word “clench” and there was a dictionary definition (not sure though if this is part of Google Dictionary). The extension for Google Dictionary is still working, by the way. This is sad. :
