Motorola XOOM 4G LTE Upgrade Might Not Be Available Until September

9

Looking for a date to cling to for your promised 4G LTE hardware upgrade on the Motorola XOOM? Our friends at Droid-Life have received evidence of the upgrade’s arrival slated for September, more than a full month from now.

Technically, September does fall into the “Summer” window that Verizon and Motorola initially set when they released the 3G-only version of the device.

It’s unfortunate Motorola couldn’t get this upgrade out sooner – surely they knew they wouldn’t be the only ones standing in the Android tablet market by this time. They already have competitively-priced foes eating into their market presence and Samsung is set to bring out an LTE-enabled Galaxy Tab 10.1 in just a couple of short days. [Droid-Life]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Have they fixed all transition animation so it is at least as smooth as the Ipad2?

  2. Glad I didn’t get a Xoom lol

  3. At least there is some movement on this. We haven’t heard much about the LTE upgrade for the Xoom in a while. I’ll give a Google +1 for this post, even if it pains me a bit to wait a bit longer.

  4. Mark – its smoother. Have they fixed multitasking on the Ipad2 so you dont have to double click the home button?

    1. Yes, it’s called Gestures.

I drag four fingers upward on the screen, and the multitasking bar opens up.

  5. Nice try, but the 4G upgrade was originally promised for early summer. Motorola has lost all credibility and I’m sure there are many like me who will never purchase another Motorola product.

  6. From VZW Xoom press release dated 2/22/11 “Xoom will be upgradable to 4G LTE service at no additional charge in the second quarter of 2011” That has come and gone. Summer was said after they new they wouldn’t make the 2Q and sold the units to all of us FOOLS.

  7. I love my Wifi Xoom, but I would’ve been extremely pissed off had I gone with the Verizon version. Motorola really dropped the ball with the LTE upgrade. It’s safe to say that the Xoom will be the first and last Motorola device I ever own.

  8. Considering my city wont be seeing 4G until two months *after* hell freezes over, I’m ok with this.
