Galaxy S II Set for August Launch in the US, According to Samsung’s JK Shin

42

At Samsung’s South Korean launch event for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, top dog JK Shin confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S II is on track for an August launch in the United States. He provided no further details, leaving us to ponder the exact date of the dual-core superphone’s launch. If it is anything like the release of the first Galaxy S in the US, dates could be staggered across carriers.

We caught our first glimpse of what will purportedly be Sprint’s version of the device earlier in the week, but so far have no clear details on how the Galaxy S II will vary from carrier to carrier. If an August launch is right around the corner, we expect we should be learning a bit more about Samsung’s release strategy soon.

  1. nice catch but I highly doubt there will be one for verizon ready in august….Verizon will probably get it next year and then charge 300 for it….and I am not bashing verizon I have there service but they have been slacking in phone dpt…

  2. Kinda late dontcha think? With the Nexus Prime in 3-4 months after Aug I would just wait for that monster.

    1. August isn’t bad. The Galaxy S II came out for the public to buy on the last week/first week of May/June
So its actually only 2months late. And Samsung had to arrange and make 4 different iterations just for U.S so you guys can be thankful. Otherwise you might have not even received any flagship phones from Samsung…
Tbh 3months or 4 sgsII will probably still have the best hardware. Maybe not interms of clock speed but Exynos…is Exynos.

Oh and you really REALLY think Nexus 3 will come out this year? Really? Or even start of 2012? I wish..

P.s ban that idiot below me.

    2. We don’t even know who’s making the next Nexus phone yet, and your counting on the Prime in 3 months. I hope your right, but not likely.

  3. Well if this is true and verizon does get this phone. Well then Moto better get the Bionic out ASAP or else that will sell like crap!

    1. Only if the S2 is 4G, about which there has been a lot of speculation. Personally, I am much more confident in the end-user quality of the S2, but with Verizon currently offering unlimited 4G for grandfathered customers, I think many a many customers will opt for the Bionic if the S2 is only 3G.

  4. the waiting game never ends, every 2 or 3 months there is something better, I personally have been waiting for the GS2 since the first day it was announced and can’t wait for it to hit sprint

  5. I was planning for gs2, but now I changed my mind. My contract ends on December, I am going for Nexus 3!

  6. The UNLIMITED network is waiting for it’s version of the Galaxy Within. That will bring a grand total of 4 dualcore monsters on the NOW NETWORK….Evo 3d, Photon 4g, Samsung Within 4g and the Htc Hero 4g. What more can anyone want all the best device reside on sprint of course including the EVO 4G AND NEXUS S4G…

    1. Sadly this is true, I love my Thunderbolt, but the choices on Sprint crush Big Red

    2. The best just keep on getting better, hahahaha, take that verizon!!!.

      1. you realize that verizon will have 4 dual core phones by then too droid x2, droid 3 droid bionic and the samsung function also the 4g is like two times faster than sprints

        1. ahhhhh!!!!!, will, that’s the key word here, guess what sprint will!!!! have more by them, hahahaha.

    3. As it was pointed out to you over at Android Police, the Hero 4G most likely won’t be a dual core phone. Try researching and reading before posting. You might get something factually right once in awhile.

      1. The Hero 4g, aka Kingdom is not a dual core phone, its a dual mode phone cdma, gsm. But we’ll just let him dream.

  7. Been waiting on this. I hope Verizon doesn’t screw me out of it. And is Samsung really worried about an iPhone release? No matter what happens the same people buy the thing over, theres a little spike in sales around launch day all the while people continue to suck down Android at an increasing rate. I don’t even see iPhone launches as a factor in the Android field anymore.

    1. “theres a little spike in sales around launch day ”

Sir, Apple just reported 20.24 million sales of the iPhone 4….a YEAR OLD phone. Hardly a “little spike in sales around launch day”. Is there an Android phone that can sell 20 million phones a full year after it launches??? Better yet, is there an Android phone that can sell 20 million units PERIOD, let alone in 3 months??? The things you guys say….unbelievable

      1. Apple releases 1 single phone at a time, they had BETTER be selling that many. Android gets new phones released every few months, by multiple manufacturers. Android already surpassed iphone in users worldwide; in other words, google’s attracting new users, while crApple is relying mostly on their existing user base to upgrade to their next phone.

      2. Well, lets look at it… The only choice people have for that type of phone is the iphone… so if you want iOS you HAVE to get an iphone.

        Now lets look at Android…

Samsung sold 10 million Galaxy S devices… Then released a phone that is miles better than it and sold 5-6 million in 2 months. And that phone isn’t even out in every country yet.

Samsung sells more phones than Apple does by far. They don’t sell just one phone though, so it isn’t much of a fair comparison.

You don’t like the way the iphone does something, too bad if you want one you have to get the only model available.

You want a physical keyboard? Android has a phone that has one. You don’t want a keyboard? Android has another phone that is perfect for you.

Do you want a front facing camera? Or don’t care? Yup, options for both of those.

Basically, when you shop android you can pick any phone that matches exactly what you want.

  8. nearly 4 months after the UK got it? wtf?

  9. I seriously considered the SGSII but between the waiting, the implied eff you to U.S. customers and the iphonesque interface I decided to go with the 3D instead.

If I wanted an iPhone…I’d have gotten an iPhone.

    1. You mean it was delayed here because the carriers would not release it?
Samsung would have gladly sold us one had the carriers not done their usual BS what with adding in bloatware, and of course not releasing it at the same time a competitor’s phone is out

      1. I know, I know. The Samsung fanboy excuse for everything. It’s always a carrier(s) conspiracy….(because they just hate to sell phones). #EyeRoll

        1. Don’t you mean Android fanboys? And Samsung has nothing to do with the phone coming out late in the U.S. Carrier all want specific stuff on their phones, plus you have to make phones for two networks, compatible with 4g and lte, potentially. Apple only puts out one phone on, now two carriers, and doesn’t have to put bloatware on it or change little stuff for each carrier. Logistically, it prolly takes a while to ready a phone for the U.S., especially a phone as amazing as the GSII

    2. if i want a 3D brick, i’d have gotten a 3D brick already!
If I wanted an iPhone…I’d have gotten an iPhone!!
      I WANT A GS2, I WAITED FOR A GS2!!!

  10. Yeah, just like the above comments said, it’s too late. Unless the US versions bump up the specs accordingly (think higher-res (retina) screen, 1.5GHz processor(s) at the very minumum, possibly LTE & NFC)–which I very much doubt–I’d recommend waiting for the next Nexus. No way this one’s gonna make any waves in the US with the current specs.

  11. Dude, ‘3rd world’?!? You’re kidding right?

South Korea is one of the most technically advanced countries in the world…. fibre-optic broadband is already in place to every school, they’re replacing textbooks with digital content in every learning establishment by 2013 and broadband penetration is way more advanced in the US…..

….I could go on but the point is that your attitude is a bit lame my friend…

  12. As a VZW customer, I want this phone only if it has LTE support. If not, then I have to wait longer for the real superphones. Nexus Prime appears to be the first real superphone. No one knows what iPhone 5 will be like in Sept.

No reason to rush the purchase at this point. If this was out in June, it would be a no brainer. Now we have to wait until August or later, might as well wait for the best thing 2 months later.

  13. I hope it ships with the same processor and not that Nvidia shit!

  14. Add a keyboard with some LTE and u get the best selling phone in the US.

Yes I think this can beat the iPhone if it gets HSPA+, WiMAX and LTE on all 4 carriers.

    1. The 13 month old iPhone 4 is the best selling phone on Verizon and AT&T. The two year old iPhone 3GS outsells Android on AT&T. iPhone 5 is coming soon and possibly on the remaining US carriers. I think you’re wrong on this one.

      1. A year ago Android and iOS were close in marketshare. Today Android is
bigger than the rest of the market combined.

550,000 activations for Android daily (mostly phones) and iOS sells about 8
        million a month or 270,000 a day.

        1. I’m saying no one Android device or manufacturer will outsell the iPhone. Certainly not Samsung. Keep in mind there are more than 300 Android devices to two iPhones with Apple taking in more than 50% of mobile phone profits.

Also, if you to look at the figures based on OS share, iOS easily beats Android that’s including iPod and iPad. Finally, there are more than 220 million iOS devices compared to Android’s 130 million. Apple leads in total devices sold, overall OS share and in profitshare. Remove the device activation smoke screen and these are the hard facts. Marketshare without profits means nothing.

  15. zzzz..sorry thats gonna be about 2-3 months too late.

  16. 3rd world? You have to be kidding me. What world do you live on? Earth, or some other world?

  17. Wtf? This phone is still the king of phones now and will still be in August. Heck even my galaxy s 1 is better than most phones out there. Seriously wtf are you smoking. Anyway for me it’s either this or the Nexus Prime.

HERE COMES THE PAIN APPLE YOU MOFO

  18. n/a

  19. What about the U.S.? Any word on this coming to Virgin Mobile in the United States anytime soon?

  20. Next stop – FCC, which should reveal whether the first ones are GSM or CDMA.

  21. I really hope you guys in the USA get the phone ASAP! I feel bad that you’re stuck with… *looks around cautiously* APPLE!

Here’s to the S II for USA!

  22. Finally, i guess now we have to wait for the official announcement and i’ll be smooth in the sprint store come august. lol
