Xperia Play, Nexus S, Incredible S all free as part of Best Buy Canada’s Free Phone Fridays

4

For our readers in the Great White North, a few free phones are headed your way this Friday as part of Best Buy’s ongoing Free Phone Fridays promotion. We’ve seen this promotion carried out in the States a few times, but it looks like our Canadian neighbors are in for some real treats. All on the docket for this week are the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play at Rogers (thumbs not included), the Nexus S on Telus, and HTC Incredible S on Bell. You will need to sign up for one of those funky 3-year contracts to qualify for the free phone, but you might just be a fool not to pick one up. Or you may be pretty smart for not getting locked into a contract for three years, your call.

  1. 3 Year contract? O.O
In Norway it’s only allowed with 2 years.
And who wants to buy phones on a contract anyway? :P

  2. I think 2 yers with 1 phone is too long, yet my budget doesnt allow for quicker replacement….but 3 years??? WTH??!!

  3. I can’t wait for my contract to expire. I will just buy my next phone at full price. I’m done with being stuck in contracts.

  4. Its a 3 year contract, but they give you a 2 year renewal period.  When your two years are up, you get a new phone (the discounted price) but have to extend your contract again so its 36 months out from the day you get the phone.  Its their way of making you stick with the same carrier.  It doesn’t mean you can’t get a phone for 3 years without a discounted price though.  I’m not defending them.  I live in Canada and it does suck (I just got an arc signed on for 3 more years of sub-par service).  I just though I’d clarify for those non Canadian readers.  Cheers
