Pantech Vega Racer first phone with 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon

34

Pantech has plans to launch the Vega Racer, what should be the world’s first 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon handset, later this month in their native Korea. The phone headed to SK-Telekom rocks the Qualcomm MSM8660 next to its Adreno 220 GPU and 1GB of RAM, enough power to make any smartphone user drool. The phone remains slim at 9mm thick and weighs in at 120g, not bad for a device with a 4.3-inch display. There is little to no chance we’ll see this one in North America, but a boy can dream.

  1.  It really looks nice, but companies really need to stop doing the iphone/touchwiz looking icons

    1. totally

    2.  they’re just icons, guys

    3. true, I swear, MIUI did the same thing, yet they haven’t given them shit

  2.  Seriously… if I wanted an Iphone I’d get an iphone. Please don’t make android phones look like iPhones…

    1. This phone is superior to the iPhone in every way.

      1. Apple will just have to sue them for the layout eventually…

        1.  No they wont its in Korea…

          1. that is why it is good to have nuclear weapons and fast mobile phones. lol maybe they should combine both. If we see this phone headed for the US i’d think twice before I turn it on. :P

        2. actually lg could  sue apple..since iphone is a ripoff off the lg prada.

    2. Except for looks. It’s an aPhone.

      1.  no..i like it..since iphone is a ripoff off the lg prada

        1. I’m sorry… I’m not an Apple fanboy, but the iPhone is not a ripoff of LG Prada. Have you even seen a picture of the phone before you started to make your absurd comments…?

    3.  I don’t see it. But then again, I don’t give a shit.

    4. iPhone hardware looks better than any Android. If I can get that, with sweet customizable Android, it’s a win. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

      1. You have no taste.

    5. WTF are you talking about… all phones look alike these days. And i’ll take this phone over ihomo anyday

  3. Who cares what it looks like…. It’s android so you can make it look like whatever you want. It’s the base hardware that sounds tasty. This gives us an idea what the next HTC phones might be.

  4.  Literal Train of Cognition:
    “read title””Oooo dual core 1.5″”clicks title””sees image”
“Kinda pretty phone..””what the hell!!!””if I wanted an Iphone I’d get one””Jobs should just sue these guys and end that””oh the interface is in Chinese””decides to post this here”

  5. Looks like it’s got miui. Kinda neat. Although I am an android purist.

  6. the phone is colorful and alive

  7. I like it i would buy it in a heart beat if it  came to verizon

  8. Pantech could make a 2.2GHz quad-core and it will still be off-brand junk.

    1.  How about 2.3Ghz….

  9. Why is there so little of a chance that this comes to North America? What about this wouldn’t be popular here?

    1. There are a ton of devices that are available in SE asia (especially Japan) that are never seen in other markets for various reasons. In Japan, and SE asia in general, TVs commonly come with DVRs and Blu-Ray RW drives built-in, but you rarely, if ever see that in other markets. I don’t know why this phone wouldn’t come to North America or Europe. Perhaps because Pantech isn’t exactly associated with high-end quality, but then again, neither is Sanyo/Kyocera or Huawei, but they still have their products in North American/European markets. I guarantee those chipsets will be sold everywhere else, probably just not this particular device.

  10.  its the principle though. people are going to forever say android is an iphone knock-off if these handset makers dont….KNOCK IT OFF!

    1.  yeah..third time saying..if people who in the know knows..iphone is a ripoff of the lg prada..and so many phones look alike anyway…i say who gives a rats buff..i love my inspire if people hate it..so beit..atleats i can say its an htc.

  11. i have a good idea of how droid can take out apple. it could work. how about when apple is about to release that iphone 4s or 5 or whatever and android just come out with a crap load of phones cheap as crap. im talking about high end phones for 99 on a contract just to show how android can handle them.

    1. Market share wise the iPhone is already done for, android will own the sales roster for this summer seeing how all signs point to a delayed launch, and Apple’s usual, supply issues, meanwhile androids of all calibers will be there, and during the Christmas season it would be difficult to go iPhone 5 over quad core, tegra 3 phone.

  12.  this is a beautiful beast, i love to get this any time.

  13.  Um, would the Qualcomm MDP be the first 1.5Ghz dual core phone? Considering you can already buy one… http://www.bsquare.com/snapdragon-mobile-development-platform.aspx
