Galaxy Tab (7 Incher) Gingerbread ROM Now Available for Download

6

After hearing news that folks in Italy were receiving the Gingerbread update for the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, XDA set out to bring it to more people. The build number is JQ1 and should be completely stock. Fret not about that last part, though, as they have already achieved root and are working to unlock the bootloader pretty soon. XDA has the files you’ll need but be sure you have an account because some of the files are attachments available only to XDA members. Head over there now to get started. [via AndroidForums.com]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. What are the enhancements brought by this update apart the fact that it now runs 2.3?

    1. Since it is TouchWiz, probably none.

      1. my tab doesn’t run touchwiz, i don’t know of any gtab 7 that does

  2. From what I am seeing so far, this does NOT work for Verizon or Sprint CDMA tabs

  3. Just so I understand, this isn’t a Gingerbread update that will be pushed out from Google or Samsung but an update developed by XDA developers which requires a rooted Tab?
If it is an XDA-only thing, are there a set of user-friendly instructions somewhere to do this for the non-technical audience? Please advise.

    1. samsung/italian carrier pushed this update out to the italian market only. the wifi only version and it seems gsm versions can put this on their tab now. at this time it seems cdma versions will not work with it whether because the radios don’t work or because the will just not flash correclty.
hopefully in the weeks ahead vzw, sprint, tmobile etc will push this out to their customers.
