Android Open Accessory Demoed With CardioQuest, Fitness Bike [GOOGLE IO]

Google just announced Android Open Accessory which will allow accessory makers more closely integrate their devices with your Android phones, tablets, and beyond. To show off the feature, they gave the common example of going to the gym, getting on an excercise bike, and plugging your Android Phone into the accessory.

This will totally blow the market wide open for awesome accessories that integrate with your current devices. Think of all the extracurricular interests and hobbies you have that could take advantage of this new capability.

  2. So you could plug your phone into anything that implements the Accessory mode. Refrigerators. TV’s. Stereos. Automobile dashboards. Bathroom scale. Blood pressure / Glucose meter / other medical devices. Toys. Robots. R/C cars / aircraft.

    It will be interesting to see what developers can imagine.

    When connected, each accessory will wake up the associated app or prompt you to install it and take you to the download.

  5. I read on another blog that ps3 and xbox usb controllers might be a possibility. That would be my dream accessory. I’m sorry I think that had more to do with the 3.1 update to the xoom. Oh well either way id like that.
