HTC Thunderbolt Receives Update With Enhanced 3G Connectivity and Messaging Fixes

24

Remember that new HTC Thunderbolt software that leaked a little over a week ago? It’s prepped and ready for installation, as Verizon has updated their support page to reflect the latest tweaks and enhancements that will hit their first 4G LTE handset. The main fix here is enhanced 3G data connectivity, which should alleviate some of the 4G/3G switching problems some users have experienced. Messaging fixes correct incorrectly displayed SMS and MMS messages. As is usual, expect this one to roll out over the next couple of weeks, so don’t panic if it doesn’t hit your handset this weekend. See the full release notes at the source link below, and let us know in the comments when you receive your update.

  1. Drat, and I returned the damned thing because of its less than stellar 3G performance. My Droid (OG) had better 3G coverage. Now maybe regretting that decision. BTW I loved the simultaneous voice and data over 3G

  2. im running the leaked radio and its great! Not to mention CM7… oh mia god… :D

    1. Are you running Slahyer’s CM7 pre-alpha? Isn’t it still a WIP?

  3. the thing that really bugs me is the full retail cost of this phone is 569 but 250 with contract and something like the ithing 4 is 649 but ONLY 200 on contract!! How in the world does that make sense. (only using ithing as example)

    1. 32 gig iPhone is 749 and 299

      1. yup and the 16 gig iphone 649 and 199 just like he said

        1. I thought retail for Tbolt at best buy is 750??

          1. at verizon full retail is 569. it was 599 when the phone was released. that 749 was floated pre-release, but it didn’t happen.

          2. Best Buy’s full retail price for the Thunderbolt is $699 and the one near me wouldn’t price-match Verizon on it.

        2. Well seeing how the bolt has more memory you might want to atleast compare something somewhat similar just saying.

          1. gotcha. it is a bummer that the iphone gets a 450 subsidy discount and the TB gets a 320 discount. Why does a 32 g iphone cost more than a 64 gig ipad2? guess the phone/retina outweighs… but doesn’t seem right.

          2. the whole subsidy thing is suspect…

          3. Hmmm…..looking @ my Amazon Wireless invoice…..hehe, looks like I got the TBolt $129 on contract last weekend….and LOVING it, awesome phone.

  4. people gave vz way too much credit on the lowering of retail (after the 1 yr option was axed)… the TB went from 599 to 569. Woo hoo.

  5. Makes me wonder where the fix was for the Evo when it had horrible 3G issues.

  6. Mitchell, can you advise how you rooted and added CM7?

    Thanks!

  7. how about this article is edited a little?
**”HTC Thunderbolt Receives Update With Enhanced 3G Connectivity and Messaging Fixes” implies the update has already rolled out, when no such update has been done.
**”It’s prepped and ready for installation,” not so much. no Software update for anyone in any part of the country yet. not even manually unless you download the leaked &un-final version of the RUU.

good to know what the eventual update will bring, but half of the article claims its ready, the other half states its waiting to be pushed out.

    /rant

this thing needs to get pushed like yesterday.

    1. Umm it was pushed yesterday, Faggiolo. Check your phone.

      1. Did you get it?
Multiple forums/users in different states have stated they have not received it as of sunday morning. And if it were pushed, I’m sure someone in some place would have made it widely known they extracted the final version.

If you did, then ill take your criticism.if not, then…you can just keep checking your phone before replying.

      2. As stated above “As is usual, expect this one to roll out over the next couple of weeks, so don’t panic if it doesn’t hit your handset this weekend. See the full release notes at the source link below, and let us know in the comments when you receive your update.”

      3. Checked my phone just now (Monday am)…No update available. I imagine they’re rolling it out in batches, not all at once.

    2. It is prepped and ready to install….Verizon just hasn’t flipped the switch, yet. Supposedly it’s the same way with skype, too.

  8. Currently the second most wanted phone in US!!..

  9. I just spoke with an Technical Support Operations Manager at VZW and apparently, the update will go out starting tomorrow; 5/3/11.
