Best Buy Announces Pre-sale of HTC Flyer for April 24th, Priced at $499

Best Buy hasn’t narrowed down their spring launch window for the Wi-Fi-only version of the HTC Flyer, but they have announced the beginning of pre-sales for the device. Starting this Sunday, April 24th, you can reserve your Flyer ahead of its release for $499. Best Buy will be the exclusive retailer of the Wi-Fi-only Flyer in the United States, though we question how great the demand for the device will be. The $499 price tag matches up with the lowest price point for the iPad 2, though that device features a larger screen and all the marketing power of Apple behind it. Even if the Flyer came with Android Honeycomb onboard (which it doesn’t), the tablet has an uphill climb in front of it.

While we aren’t sold on the Flyer yet, fans of HTC’s Sense UI looking for a smaller tablet for factor might be interested in at least giving it the once over.

  1. Transformer baby!

    1. Yeah I know right? This thing is over priced. $400 10″ Transformer ftw!

    2. You are comparing apples and oranges. This targets people who require stylus input.

      1. and onlive gaming

  2. What I want to know is when will Sprint’s Evo 3D be put on pre order !?!

  3. not the perfect tablet, but the pen input and evernote integration make for a good note taker at my work

  4. This price point is a mistake. I was really look forward to it. I dont care that it isnt honeycomb. The pen tech is enough for me.

  5. outdated technology

  6. When I first heard about the flyer I wasn’t impressed. But the more I think about HTC’s build quality and overall user experience I really want to get my hands on this.

  7. ME WANT HONEYCOMB!!!!

  8. I’m getting the Acer Iconia

  9. iPad 2 is 10″ but useless to me at work. So it might as well cost $100 and it still won’t help me. I was expecting a higher price since no other company has pen integration like HTC. So I’m pretty excited about the price. If you are keeping it by your couch, get the Transfomer and save yourself some cash. If you are keeping it in your office, you want this.

    1. It depends entirely on what work you want to be done. I get quite a bit done on my iPad 2’s 10″ screen without the use of any bluetooth keyboards and I use a capacitive stylus for drawing and coloring. While I LOVE the idea of this having an actually stylus that communicates with the device directly, the screen size would be completely useless to me, especially for drawing and typing. I’ll be excited when HTC comes out with a 10″ version.

      1. I work in a research lab. So 7″ with a stylus beats out everything else. I have tried bringing a 10″ to work and so have other co-workers. After a couple days we quit bringing it to work cause it got used for nothing useful.

I would not buy this for my wife. 7″ is way too small for note taking for a college class. I’m hoping the rumors are true of a 10″ Flyer this Summer. That’s what I would get her.

        1. yeah not quite sure why they started out with 7″

  10. Ugh… Sense is the best Android overlay, but man this has got to stop. Honeycomb or bust. End fragmentation now!

    1. I agree. I don’t like it that some people care more about HTC Sense then they do about Android. If I was going to use a skin it would be HTC Sense with LauncherPro on top.

  11. You outdated tech people really are dumb aren’t you. According to y’all what isn’t outdated tech? Appaarantly nothing?…..Tegra crap ass 2? Cuz that has been shipping in products sense at least mid last year. Discounting the fact it blows on EVERYTHING but games specifically made for its gpu. Yet somehow the one in the thunderbolt and flyer which came out this year and include more RAM than anything had last year is outdated.

    1. Very informative. Thanks

  12. I cannot remember the last time I used a pen….

  13. If I had to sit and pay attention in corporate meetings or were a salesman on the road I would jump on this. I tend to dose off during meetings so maybe that recording feature would be handy after all.

  14. Sold!

Although I’ll wait until the next semester of school starts. Should be more accessories out for it by then too. I need a slick case with a pen holder.

    1. You bum get out of here these posting are for real people not some Highschool kid…

      1. For your info, since you’ve obviously never been to one, colleges are usually divided by quarters or semesters too, not just high school. So how you can 100% positively assume that he is a highschooler is absolutely beyond me. For all you know, he could be in his final year of college, which would be more education than you have ever had. And way to post a reply a whole day after the fact. Preying on people “littler” than yourself are we? How sad…

      2. It’s college genius. Like sqiddy says, you probably never went to one.

EDIT: You know, so I don’t end up like a deadbeat like you trolling these forums in every carrier related post like the pathetic human being you are?

  15. But, but, but it doesn’t have GPS… In all seriousness, I don’t think this will do too well at its price point.

  16. This needs to compete with the Color Nook, not IPAD2

    1. I agree. it would thrive at that price point though it would hurt the sales of the great accidental highest selling eReader turned tablet.

  17. Justin, the Tegra 2 is much faster than you imply. More importantly, it is great with battery life, in spite of Android being a battery sucker.

  18. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!..

  19. With the Asus Transformer priced at 400 who is going to buy this thing that isn’t even running honeycomb?

    1. People who have use for the pen and quality of HTC.

    2. I love HTC, but that Transformer seems like a steal.

  20. This is too expensive. If Android tablet/phone makers don’t price these devices accordingly, not only the have to face the failure of these units, but rather people will turn into buying iOS devices instead (I am seeing this at work and those people who I know). I am still not convinced if I want to pay $500+ for any of these tablets. We all know these prices will come down really quickly, but why not price them so that masses will buy them instead of waiting for the price cut. I have yet to see a line for Android base devices and we all know how long the lines are when Apple starts selling something…Why can’t Android makers come up with that strategy???

  21. This is the only kind of tablet I want.
