It hasn’t even been a week since it was rumored to be in the works and Sony Ericsson has gone ahead and announced it – the Sony Ericsson W8. (AKA the NEW Walkman phone.) What makes this one so new? It runs Android, of course.
We’re sure they took some – nay, all of its design cues from some of their already-existent smallish Android devices such as the Xperia X10 Mini and the Xperia X8. The difference here is a nice selection of finishes for the battery door and – you guessed it – a Walkman logo.
The inside of the device isn’t too awe-inspiring – it has a 600MHz processor, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and 168MB of RAM.The screen is HVGA and clocks in at 3.2 inches. And it still only runs Android 2.1. Still, we’re sure Sony Ericsson’s embedded their superior hardware and software audio technology so as to make music sound like – well – music. did they find some old bits and bobs lying around the warehouse and decide to cover it with a shiny case and call it the walkman phone?
Hopefully it will come out cheap or I’ll feel very sorry for any sucker who decides to by it.
cool idea, bring it back, brings back lots of memories of many mix-tapes. but please get a new designer for these sony products – they’re ugly. the phones are ugly and this walkman (which looks similar to their phones) is ugly.

If they were smart they would not release as a phone, bump up the memory, and just release an android music player. Of course then they would get sued by apple.

I think my wife would appreciate this phone. It’s small, and it’s shiny, and it plays pirated music. @allabove – not everyone appreciates ugliness of HTC and Motorola handsets.
Its not about the look its about them taking advantage of noobs with these weak specs.
