HTC Gives Us Six Minutes with their Flyer Tablet [Video]

119

No, it isn’t quite seven minutes in heaven, but it is six minutes with the HTC Flyer. This is the sort of device you need to work yourself up to get excited about, because the tablet itself isn’t doing much to stir the blood. Still, HTC does its best to give us the bells-and-whistles overview of their upcoming Android slate. They call it a “tablet like no other.” We like the sound of its rumored successors a bit more.

    1. I don’t think Honeycomb really buys you anything on a smaller tablet. Personally, I prefer the FroYo/Gingerbread layout, with the menu, home, and back buttons near my hand.

      1. I just don’t like more fragmentation. This is not really a tablet according to Google, anything under 3.0 is a phone OS.

    5. Who cares about honeycomb. They’ve taken the functionality of the tablet past iOS and honeycomb by making this not just a coffee table entertainment device, but a complete business tablet.

Honeycomb be damned. Dual core be damned. This thing is better than all other tablets because of its functionality.

    9. HTC is proving version number whoring idiots like you wrong. I honestly don’t care that this is releasing without Honeycomb, I know they promised it and it will get it. I’d much rather the extra functionalities on the Flyer over Honeycomb.

But then again, you’re probably also part of the crowd that screams “Dual Core or bust”!

      1. Android doesn’t support dual core for phones and those people are retards. The fact that HTC knows how to make skins just makes the other OEM’s think that they can also but all they do is screw up Android. I like Android as a whole not some small part of it like you.

        1. Wait… did you just say that Android doesn’t support dual-core phones? The Atrix and the Optimus 2X (G2x) have dual-core and theirs probably a lot more to come.

          1. I know that there are dual core phones but the only version of Android that supports dual core is Honeycomb. There is also a rumor that 2.4 will support dual core for phones. As of now they work but they don’t provide any real benefits unless your are using Tegra Zone apps. It is just like when everybody and their Mom started making Android tablets with a non-tablet version of Android. If 2.4 came out in May we all know that phones like the Atrix and G2x will have to wait another 6 months after release to get the full benefit of their other core, thats bull.

  5. I think the pen technology is a nice addition and makes this tablet different than the others. In reality, I think a lot of people will use tablets to take notes at meetings, seminars, classes, lectures, etc. That’s where I see tablets being useful only if they have some sort of pen input tech that works. Obviously, honeycomb will help, but there is some pretty heavy customization that HTC is working through. I’m not sure if a 10″ form factor is what is needed. BUT a low price is needed to be successful.

    1. like the word scribe has never been used before anywhere regarding typing or writing for a computer program, but they’ll probably try a lawsuit anyway.

  33. For functionality out of the box this seems to have the best features especially for business. But people are going to still be brainwashed that the ipad 2 in the be all and end all where in fact all that its doing is holding back technology and when the ipad eventually gets round to similar feature it will be hailed innovative.

This running dual core, with honeycomb, various sizes and a good price point would make all the other tablets look out of date already.
