SPB Shell 3D for Android Handsets Now Available [Video]

40

Although the folks at SPB told us they’d be working on OEM partnerships to bring their custom user interface to Android devices instead of offering it as an home replacement in the Android market, SPB Shell 3D is now available for all to download. (Previously it was called SPB Mobile Shell 5.0.) It’s been in development for a long time and we felt we were as close as we’d ever get to an official release when they had the app at Google’s mega-booth in Barcelona last month.

We didn’t think it’d cost as much as it does, though – $14.95. Steep for a home replacement app these days, SPB. We would have easily given you our money back in the old days of Windows Mobile 6.x but those days have long passed. If you like what you see in the video above and don’t mind dropping 15 bills on it, though, head to the Android market.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  10. Haha first of all, 15$..let’s be real. second, I agree with everyone else saying 15minutes is no where near enough time. Back in the older android market days, I definitely would have said what the hell just to try it out

  13. Amen, however despite the high price-tag, and the un-professionalism of the video…I could see myself caving and getting this.

…I’m a sucker for fancy UIs.

  23. This WAS the only way to use a windows 6.x phone before, but nkow android is so useful and flexible, SBP isn’t as necessary. Even though this version is super fancy, it reminds me enough of windows 6.x that I want to throw up in my mouth, just a little bit…

  25. No Scrolling Widgets!!!
    No Widget Resizing
    No Live Wallpaper

I will stick with LauncherPro… it is not so limiting.

And the price is a bit out of touch with reality, i guess they are still working on the $30 they charged for SPB Mobile Shell for WinMo.

  29. Didn’t see it lagging at any point, looks super fast, and better than Honeycomb. Price is a bit high though.

  30. Looks amazing but $15 for an app is way too much.

    I don’t mind paying $5 or $6

  32. For the money, one would expect a great app and good customer service. This one lacks either. LPP gives you way more functionality and is less expensive to boot.

The only reason we ended up with this expensive, yet half-cooked app, is because SPB was shooting for loftier contracts with Phone providers, and could not deliver past the shiny exterior.

No thanks, from this gadget fan.
