27

We’d heard the Motorola DROID X could receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread this weekend, but that was only a rumor. We didn’t hear about a Motorola DROID 2, though, but the folks at MyDroidWorld have leaked the upgrade for all to apply and enjoy on both MOTOBLUR phones from Verizon.

It’s not the official OTA but it’s proof that Motorola’s looking to get things moving along soon. Here are upgrade instructions for the Motorola DROID 2 if you’re rooted and would rather not wait for the OTA:

1. Download this file from the TBH app (public release in 72 hrs)
2. Use Bootstrap to get your phone into recovery.
3. Create a backup (This is not compatible with new firmware)
4. Install the Firmware using recovery
1. select install zip from sdcard
2. choose zip from sdcard
3. navigate to teamblackhat folder
4. select the file you downloaded
5. Restart phone
6. Re-activate your phone
1. dial *228
2. select 1

You’ll need the TBH app from the Android market which costs $1.99. (A free release will go out in the next couple of days.) After you download that and retrieve the file you’ll need, those instructions above should get you going. You DROID X folks can find instructions for your device below. 23. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but my droid x battery life has improved at least by 200% since I installed 2.3.3. I’m glad google is finally realizing that management of background applications is a very important thing to users. Maybe this will make it so we don’t have to use task killer apps anymore.
