NOOKcolor Used For an In-Dash System [Video]

16

We’ve already got OEMs making in-dash systems that use Android – such as Parrot – but I think this is one of the first times we’ve seen an existing Android tablet being used as both the hardware and software component for one. Someone’s taken a rooted NOOKcolor, hooked it up to the stereo system inside their car, and the rest is history. GPS and Bluetooth would’ve been two more pieces to this already epic puzzle, but developers are still trying to get that stuff going on the NOOKcolor. Check the video out above to see what he’s done. The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Nookcolor? Really?? Should have at least went with a Galaxy Tab to something like that.

The difference in price is quite a lot. You can get a NookColor for $250. How much is a Galaxy Tab?

  3. nice..

  4. Archos A70 for $250 would have had all of that and more.

  5. I guess if you’re putting it in a ricer that’s fine, but I’d have to spend the extra few hundred and get a better unit if I’m going to mount it on my dash.

  6. Couldn’t be more happy I bought my nook color. Does what I need and more!

  7. So from what i gather in that story, the nook color has gps an bluetooth, its just not enabled?

  8. Nook color has bluetooth. Once it will be enabled you can connect gps by bt.

  9. not gonna lie…that a pretty sweet idea

  10. You kno I started a site called: http://stevejobsdouchebagchronicles.us/ I may have to do one for Google too. Why not just have a bigger venue. International CES can manage people at Las Vegas. Why don’t they just do the same?

  11. That is sick! I would total my car using that, but still…cool…

  12. Really cool idea, but I have to agree that the NookColor is the wrong tablet for the job. For an in-dash system, I’d insist on gps and bluetooth (tho I heard there’s a hack to enable bluetooth on the NC).

  13. I did this with my Archos 5it last May. Thought that many people were doing this. I still use it regularly for media and as a gps too.

  14. That is pretty hott and come to think about it I have rooted every android phone that I have and I baught my girl the nook in color for christmas I may have to do that to hold me off from buying the xoom for a little hoping memorial day weekend the price may drop then ill get my real tablet !!! Cool idea though

  15. Thats no IN DASH. He has the nook book velcro’d to the dash and its just hanging there. Watch the vid. He flips it up at 1:05. In-Dash means built in. Misleading title all the way. We use our Nook and Droids in the car all the time…
