Virgin Mobile Might Be Bringing a 4.1-inch Powerhouse

26

Virgin Mobile has been surveying their users for quite some time now. It appeared earlier that they were looking for a name to attach to a new device they’d be bringing out, and the latest survey question to pop out has our ears raised and our eyes opened a bit.

  • 4.1 inch WVGA touchscreen
  • 5 megapixel camera
  • Android 2.2
  • 3G/WiFi for data.
  • Bluetooth
  • HDMI out
  • 1GHz Snapdragon processor (same as the EVO and Nexus One.)

We’re not totally impressed just by looking at this list, but Virgin isn’t yet known for producing high-end phones like this. And this is more than just a survey, we think: no one already has the specs of a dream phone laid out for users to vote on if they weren’t already serious about bringing it out. We’ll be watching this one closely. The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Sounds like an HTC handset if it has a Snapdragon in it.

  2. sounds good to me for Virgin Mobile

  3. It may not seem impressive for reg companys but virgin mobile is bringing their best for the prepaid users so if u dont like contracts this phone may be the way to go

  4. Virgin mobile is sprint… great choice for them

  5. do ya thing, Virgin :)

  6. I wonder how soon…I was planning on getting the optimus V in a couple months when I move so I can both save some cash (monthly by leaving AT&T) and getting a new local number after moving.
Would love to be able to get a higher end phone.

  7. once they come out with something like this, i will have no option but to give them a try if they are still $25/mo

  8. Sprint should just let them have the Kyocera Echo. Like just completely give it to them.

  9. @ DMAN….Hahaha,so true !_!

  10. @ DMAN, why do that to virgin they are doing so good why punish the virgin customer with the echo, that’s not right man.

  11. OMG! I would pay an ETF fee in a heartbeat to switch to Virgin if they put out a decent Android phone like that.

  12. Damn skippy

  13. Ive still got my iPhone4 but I picked up a Optimus V a couple weeks ago and Ive been pretty impressed that its a fairly smooth phone even with the specs it has. Still nothing compares to my iPhone but Android on a decent phone for $150 with no contract and a $25 a month plan that has unlimited text and data is serious. If they drop a higher end phone like this who knows. I do the surveys as well and participated in this one.

  14. Sounds good. Virgin has the killer $25/month unltd data + 300 minutes voice rate. Buuuuttt. 300 minutes without nights or mobile to mobile isn’t much. Likewise with their 1200 minute offering. And their unltd everything price is nothing stunning, merely competitive.

What would make me break my contract with my current carrier is if Virgin or someone else offered Android calling over wifi for A LOT CHEAPER than minutes over cellular. Let’s say 4 wifi minutes are equal to 1 cellular minute on your plan. Virgin, Boost, Cricket, etc could do this, because cellular time is their main cost, and they already have small bottom-tier plan prices, so their business model isn’t subsidized and predicated upon every poor bastard customer paying AT LEAST $70/month.

It’s just a matter of building out some VoIP servers and connections, or purchasing the service from someone else. They would be able to ascertain if you were using another Virgin phone’s wifi by simply looking at the IP address. Only calls connecting from non-Virgin IPs would be connected. Other calls would be bumped and forced onto cellular.

Viva le competition, what little there is needs to increase!

  16. 4.1 inch screen, 1Ghz proc, actually sounds like the Dell Venue

  17. Sounds pretty good. I’ll be keeping my eye out on this. HI used to have Virgin a long long time ago because I hated Verizon that much that I went pre-paid. I have a couple friends that switched to Virgin a couple weeks ago because of the ability to have android phones at such a low monthly price points. They push a phone with a really good specs and I just might have to switch from my Vibrant.

  18. I’d switch if there was a decent phone to switch to.

  19. I’d switch if there was a decent phone to switch to.

  20. Apparently Hell has frozen over.

  21. Hopefully it comes out

  22. All of these specs match the OliveSmart V-S300 except that the OliveSmart has android 2.3 and it’s for India Only. If Virgin mobile USA go a phone like this, that would be pretty sweet.

  23. Do It Virgin!!!!!!!!!!Ily

  24. it’s been confirmed. it’s a Motorola phone based of droid
