Samsung: Nexus S OTA Coming to Fix SMS Bug

12

Samsung – tweeting from their Galaxy S Support Twitter account – has confirmed that an over-the-air upgrade for the Nexus S will be rolling out over the next few days to fix that nasty SMS bug that tends to send messages to the wrong contacts. (I imagine some of you out there have gotten in trouble with that already.) Nothing else was mentioned – including the status on that annoying restart glitch that has people doubling back on their Nexus S purchase – but rest assured we’re reaching out regarding that. [Thanks, OMJ!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. This happens to my G2 and no one has sent an OTA update for it. Slightly annoying.

  2. I wonder where the fix has been made… In the 2.3 source tree or somewhere further back.

  3. I thought Google is the one that deal with the SW support for the Nexus S and Samsung for the hardware support, similar to how HTC/Google does it with the Nexus One. It doesn’t make sense that it’s tweeted from not only Samsung…but the Samsung Galaxy S support account.

  4. Oh yay! A bug that affects 5% of all Android Devices will be fixed on 0.4% of all Android Devices.

  5. Hopefully as it’s Google’s update, they will release the same fix for the Nexus One, which I presume would also include Gingerbread.

    Here’s hoping.

  6. @Roze It is one of those “look we can send out updates” kind of post from Samsung. Samsung has nothing to do with Nexus S updates but they are trying to make themselves look good because Google can get sh*t done. When 2.1.1 came out for the Nexus One Google sent it to people all over the world at the same time despite carrier or signal strength(1G,2G,3G & WiFi).

  7. Once again I love this phone and the attention it gets and will get in the future BUT with that being said GOOGLE… why couldnt you have just stuck with HTC for this build. I hate the fact that the GALAXY SUPPORT TEAM is sending out updates about my phone. I DONT OWN A GALAXY S PHONE NOR WOULD I EVER BUY ONE. My Nexus S is great, no restart issues, GPS works great, everything is great….I just wish it was an HTC. HTC just builds better phones, BINGO!

  8. sending messages to unspecified contacts is really an annoying task. It can lead to arrogancy between any 2 persons
But I wonder why the bug is being fixed only a small fraction of Androi phones while its affecting a large no of people

    ATUL

  9. I’m with David. Why is samsung announcing the update? I bought this phone so I don’t have to deal with samsung. (Unless I have hardware issues.) This really makes no sense at all.

  10. Don’t care who announces them….

  11. hey guys,
I also heard on the same day from the same account on twitter, that there might be an OTA in the future to solve color cast issues.
My Nexus S screen is heavily green. Do you know sth. about that?

Btw, google directs you to samsung when you have a question about your nexus s.

  12. Confirmed. My Nexus S (bought in the UK) just got a ~600KB update and it is version 2.3.2.
