Coby – manufacturers of a decent line of consumer electronics products (and whose logo looks like Sony’s, and whose name happens to sound like Sony’s) – has an Android tablet! Yay for bandwagoning! For $250, you can get a 7-inch WVGA device with an 800MHz processor, 4GB of internal storage with the option to expand using an SD card, an HDMI-out port and USB connectivity. We imagine WiFi and Bluetooth will also help with any of your connectivity needs. But That’s pretty much it: a run of the mill tablet without Android market and that probably won’t see Android 2.3 or 3.0. For the price, you can’t argue much, but don’t buy it expecting the world out of it. Read on for the full press details. [via CrunchGear]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Buy.com has these for 160(free shipping). Kmart had them for 139 on black friday. Ebay typically has them for 149~179 shipped depending on the seller.

  2. Dangit, not even Android 2.2? Without JIT and OpenGL ES 2.0 this will be very obsolete very quickly. A shame, since the hardware specs are pretty decent for the price point.

  3. Capacitive or Resistive?

  4. Bought one for a eReader / webclient. If you want more specs and data go here.

It is an ok play toy – but it has you missing capacitive screens. AngryBirds works but does not display screen fonts for scores and text.

Plays xVid, DIVX, and MKV files fine – no hdmi cable included to try TV hook up.

Batt life is about upto 6 hours. Returning to Kmart done playing – moving to the Nook Color for a 7″ capacitive screen device. Can’t get Archos 70 (supply issues). Samsung Tab way to expensive for my use as a wifi device.

  5. @LoweringSkies, amazon.com say “Resistive Touchscreen” which I would expect given the price. Current amazon customer rating is 2.5, from two people. One person gave it 4 stars, the other 1 star.

  6. Not to mention, if you wait a month or so, it’ll be half price on Amazon. Go Coby!

  7. i’m going to be straight forward with you guys. I really just want an iPad with Android on it… is that fair to ask for?

  8. I actually got one of these for an Xmas gift for $139.99 on Black Friday at Kmart. It was their secondary backup for the Augen or whatever it was tablet that was in the BF ad. That one didn’t have a tilt sensor, this does. It wasn’t a bad deal for the price and mostly it’s for my boyfriend so he can check e-mail and maybe put his set lists and such on it for gigging. It should serve him well. Didn’t buy a 2nd for me, because I’m too picky and would want something w/ more features and power, but for the price, it should do OK for his needs. I’d like to see it rooted for marketplace.

  9. A good place for all kinds of androd apps is slideme.Everything from notebooks to apps for movie an music down loads.Downloaded apps for my coby internet tablet.
