Desire Z, G2, and New Droid Incredible Source Available from HTC

24

It’s source code time, developers! Today, HTC has the goods you’ve been looking for. The Desire Z – what some would call the “G2 with Sense” – has gotten its source code thrown into the cloud alongside the latest source code for the most recent Droid Incredible update. Most notable is the source code for the T-Mobile G2. I mark it as notable due to all of the troubles folks have been having trying to get this root issue fixed up. Let’s hope that the availability of the device’s source will eventually lead to a fix. Head on to HTC’s site to download now.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  2. What does this do?

  3. I would also like to know what does this do, and mean, and how does it effect people with these devices. (Im new to Android). Where can i learn more about this stuff, rooting, etc..

  4. Good. Maybe soon HTC will release the Desire Z for sale in the UK.

  5. Hopefully the achieve permaroot on the G2 with it.

@Mr G2, its the source codes for developers to make apps and games compatible with the G2/Z.

  6. Does this mean the new sense could be loaded on a rooted G2? (just for fun)

  7. As far as I can see, it’s not kernel source that was made available, but BlueZ (bluetooth stack).

  8. hopefully the Devs over at XDA will get this soon. been waiting for a perm root, and can’t wait.

Thanks A Lot! Im lovin Android so far, and im yet to own a Android device (will soon though) :)

  11. @JMarti what carrier are you on and would u be willing to switch? and If you had a phone what features would u like? we can help :)

  12. Should I get the G2 or EVO 4g, or should I keep waiting?

My tmobile contract is gonna be over in mid january, but I can still upgrade for T-Mobile. If I choose sprint though, I would have to wait. What do you guys think I should do?

Also, I dont like the new mytouch 4g, so yeah

  13. @s

I have the G2 and let me tell you i am AMAZED!!!
i don’t have any issues. i even rooted TEMP but it reinstalls every time I reboot. I get the HSPA+ Network and I literally downloaded a file of 280 MB in 4 min and about 20 seconds(My download speed is 10.2 Mb actual download max 1.12 Mb/s). Tmobile is cheaper, that is for sure. but i don’t know how coverage is in ur area. That would be a big factor too

Hardware keyboard is a + for me. idk how u feel about it but the phone is not thick or bulky at all.
    anyone have am EVO?

  14. @s
By the time January rolls around, the EVO 4G will be a thing of the past (it sort of already is). I would recommend not committing to any particular phone until the time comes because you will be torn apart time and time again as new phones come out later this year and early next. And to be honest if you can stand to wait, the first few months of 2011 will be very interesting and should be a very exiting time for Android.

  15. Hey Aztec, thanks for your reply. Honestly, I don’t like or want the hardware keyboard. That’s one of the reasons I liked the EVO…But I really don’t wanna have to wait until mid january! I mean, cmon, that’s the problem w/ stupid contracts…But yeah, the g2 is the only good phone right now for me. See, had the hardware keyboard not been there, I would have gotten it instantly..

  16. @OMGWTFzorz

Thanks also for the reply. I guess I have to agree with you on that. I am a developer actually, and I am waiting for the gingerbread sdk to drop since I don’t have an android device. But yeah, even if something comes out at the end of november, I would happily wait. But January…idk. If that’s what I have to do, then ok.

  17. I thought it came out Oct 14th.

  18. @ Aztec
I actually just returned my iPhone 4 and left At&t. Im looking forward to the rumored HTC Incredible HD at the moment. Anything on Verizon or T-mobile would be great for me. Im just looking for a great, fast device. I pray for the rumored ‘Nexus 2’ though :)

  19. Yeah me too JMarti… ;)

  20. @JMarti

Yeah if the Nexus 2(S) is real that would be ur best bet. but as of now. DROID X/2 are awesome pphones for verizon. vibrant , G2, mytouch 4G and MOTO DEFY look promising.

  21. Yes, all around great time for android phone buyers. I own the Nexus One but the G2 and myTouch 4g do have my interest. So many decisions to make. It can drive you nuts.

  22. When is the htc desire z supposed to be in the US?

  23. @ Aztec
Believe it or not, my mom actually got a Droid X and i have been using it a bit, and i just loved it. Thats how i got interested in Android. All those are great options, but Arhhh so hard to make a choice. ;), Thanks Again!
