Sony Ericsson Issuing Android 2.1 for Xperia Line (Nordic and Other European Regions) Sunday

5

Trick or treat! Halloween is the day that you Xperia X10 owners will finally be stepped up to Android 2.1, says Sony Ericsson. After a long string of delays and more than a carved pumpkin-full of angry users, you guys will finally be able to enjoy a modern version of Android. Ericsson says that they’ll get it out that Friday night, literally meeting their “end of October” deadline by hours.

But – as anyone should come to expect from these update processes – don’t get mad if you don’t get it right away. They’ll start in the Nordic region Sunday, European countries Monday, and from there the process will be staggered throughout November. Those of you in other regions? Well… no word yet, but I don’t think they’re just going to call it quits after they’re done with Europe.

Xperia X10:

• HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
• Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1
• New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
• 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
• Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online

Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:

• Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
• New backup and restore application with extended content back up
• Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
• Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
• Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Even if we don’t get the 2.1 update in North America right away can’t we just debrand or root and use the Euro rom? I hope so ’cause that’d be sweet.

  2. Amazing. They release 2.1 when 2.2 has been out since June and Gingerbread is coming out shortly. Well. Good for all those people who bought those phone. They really need to step up if they are going to show their customers that they are focusing on Android for their phone line up.

  3. Awesome!! Cutting edge!

  4. SE said they wanna be # 1 android phone provider in the world… LOL…. If they continue doing it this way…. don’t know… they’ll need other manufacturers to quit doing droids..period to achive it…
    They’re such a joke…

  5. I hate to having to say this, but SE sucks. To the point that i just want to throw my X10 in the trash. Don’t get me wrong, i am not a hater. Not until now, that is. The only reason that Sony still survive today is because it’s eating of it’s good ‘HARD EARNED’ reputation built by those who managed the corp in the past. To compare…. Apple have way better sound quality in the music devices….. and lots of other small ‘less popular’ companies have better pictures quality…. I personally thinks Samsung is by passing Sony in pictures quality. And last but not least …. the people who runs the corp…. makes me sick now….. they treat us like we’re morons and don’t know any better. They can shovel all their promises up their behind. I’ll take anything over a SE now……….
