HTC Wildfire Coming to the United States this Quarter

7

It’s been announced that the HTC Wildfire would be headed for the United States this quarter. There was no word on which carriers would get it, but “regional” carriers were specifically mentioned so that rules out Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. The Wildfire is a smallish device that packs enough of a punch to get the common consumer through their day. It has a 523 MHz processor, WiFi, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, and Android 2.1 with HTC Sense. Be on the lookout for it when it lands this holiday season.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. It’s an OK phone. Really doesn’t stand up to my year and a half old Hero though.

    One for the novices/content-with-just-a-phoners.

  2. Oh, so it’s basically a Legend with a slower CPU, a much lower res screen, and a 6mm shorter frame that is nowhere near as nice. Yeah, thanks, but no thanks HTC. Devices like these only serve to confuse the average consumer and further fragment Android with their “brand-new, outdated” hardware.

  3. rzz,

And it’s probably half the price of the Legend with a MUCH better camera. But price doesn’t matter for you I guess.

This could very well be my first Android phone. I have been waiting for an Android phone with a decent camera that doesn’t cost a small fortune (I don’t do contracts). This could be just the phone for me.

  4. Fred,
5MP with flash, same as the Legend, though the Legend also has widescreen capture. An HTC phone cam is an HTC phone cam, you aren’t exactly going to be producing any feature films with it or shooting any gallery exhibits but it will get the job done. As for price, sure it is relevant but I can buy the Legend here (Canada) new for under $350 retail which isn’t too bad.

I’m not sure if anyone is selling the Legend in the US retail at this stage or not, but I’d be surprised to see the Wildfire sell for less than $350 new without a contract even when it first comes out, must less half that. If it is around the same price as a Legend or more, as I suspect it will be, I still think the Legend is a much better deal.

  5. rzz,

I guess it will all come down to price then. Will have to wait and see.

  6. In the UK, the Legend goes for about $550. The Wildfire goes for $350. So it is significantly cheaper!
