Google Search Mobile Now Lets You Traverse the Android Market

10

They’d hinted toward the move earlier in the year by showing related market apps in search results, but now Google’s added an “Android Apps” tab to their mobile search site. You’ll initially find it under the “more” tab at the upper right of your screen. From there, just search for an app as you normally would the Android market.

“What’s the point,” right? I’m not exactly sure either, but I do tend to run into times where the Android market isn’t quite cooperating the way I’d like it to. (ROM users will know what I’m talking about after a fresh flash where the market’s chugging along as it tries to re-cache everything and repopulate the market database.) Other than that, there’s not much to it. Go ahead and try it out now.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. This showed up for me a few days ago…thought I had missed something that had been there for a while because I found no news on it.

    Still cool though.

  2. Much better than searching the market. If you search for something, it appears first in the results! No more digging in the market.

  3. This is part of the market overhaul they demonstrated at Google I/O earlier this year. The goal is to be able to find apps via the browser and then “push” the app to you phone. Very cool and I’m glad I was there first hand to witness.

  4. hold on…isnt this revolutionary!?
i thought this was what we asked for…better curation.
let me give it a try now here :)

  5. I’d rather have improved desktop market search, although appbrain does a fine job already.

  6. @Alex trust me the browser market will get overhauled too. They demoed this at IO as well. Lots of big things coming with gingerbread release.

  7. Good. I tried this new mobile site search from my phone and it’s terrible. It only searches the app name. I tried looking for developer name or description text and NOTHING. Good old market search built into the market app is much better.

  8. why is this not on droid 1 ?

  9. would this be a good work around for tablets that don’t have the marketplace

  10. Voice search.
