Motorola Droid 2 Recalled from WalMart, Could Droid 2 Global Be on the Way?

8

Over the weekend a recall order was placed on WalMart’s remaining Motorola Droid 2 stock. All remaining units are to be shipped back to the distributor Brightstar’s warehouse by Tuesday, October 26th. This is interesting because the long-standing rumor has been that once the Motorola Droid 2 Global is released the original Droid 2 would cease to be available. If that pans out WalMart’s recall request may signal the arrival of the Droid 2 Global by the end of the month.

Remember, the Droid 2 Global has yet to be officially announced, and an unveiling at CTIA revealed that it in fact won’t be the same phone as the Droid Pro. If Verizon handles the launch of the Global in the same manner as the Droid 2 it should be a quiet one, and considering that for all intents and purposes it is the same phone we don’t expect too much fanfare to surround the release of the global roaming version. If the WalMart recall is indeed related to the release of the new version of the Droid 2 we see no reason why it might not slip onto shelves very soon.

  2. Will the global work in europe since it has gsm radio? if i buy from states and use it here in Portugal voldafone will it work?

  3. Why did they recall the phones? Where they considered defective? What does the red, circled area mean?

    You’ve piqued my interest!

  4. The red area simple means that that item has been deleted from inventory, and walmart does not carry that item anymore. Usually means that item is out of date, or has been discontinued..

  5. Interesting. I imagine they did this because the new Droid 2 wasn’t really selling so they figured they could recall it and put the necessary hardware into the existing D2’s and re-release them as the new D2 Global. Makes sense to me.

  6. The CREF beside DELETED means Cross Referenced. So it doesn’t mean the Droid 2 is deleted, but the item that its cross referenced with is. Which happens to be the Droid X which is indeed deleted. I work in Wal Mart Connections center.

  7. “Wow” Youre a real smart cookie broadcasting where and what dept you work in. Instead of passing off information that’s proprietary to a company who entrusted you try using your so called WM brain and go spyderwrap a LCD TV, or as I know all of you CONNECTION center tards do all too well, sit on a stool and pick at your ass.

  8. Yea, since there aren’t 100,000 Walmarts in the US and 5 million Walmart associates.
