NTT DoCoMo may have secured exclusive rights to release the Samsung Galaxy Tab in Japan, but that doesn’t mean other carriers in the country won’t be carrying Android 2.2-based Samsung tablets soon. Rather, in a sort of anti-climactic fashion, we are getting our second Froyo tab from the Korean manufacturer, the SMT-i9100. What could easily be a repackaged, rebranded Galaxy Tab for KDDI is actually slimmed down in the spec department.
The SMT-i9100 features a 7-inch, 1024×600 resolution touchscreen and 512MB RAM like the Galaxy Tab, but offers no front-facing camera, a 2MP lens on the rear, and only 4GB of internal storage. Also gone is Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, replaced with an interface by the name of Ocean Observation.
The SMT-i9100 will go on sale with an open price model in February 2011. No word if it could be coming to other regions around the globe.

I like the look of that more than the Galaxy. Are the buttons across the top though??
John B. It looks like it’s just being held upside down – the search button is normally on the right, but on that it’s on the left (and the icon appears upside down).
Ocean Observation does great UI design work. Excited to see this thing up close!

@DanGrover You’re right the icons appear upside down. I guess it rotates 180 degrees because the notification bar and zoom controls are correctly positioned.
I’m 99% sure that those aren’t buttons, they are just reflections from the lights in the room. In the picture showing the back of the device, you can see the same lights reflecting.
