The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. bout damm time.. lol

  2. It will be interesting to see how this compares to Cyanogen in terms of performance and stability. So far CM6 seems to lack both so maybe T-Mobile and HTC have some secret sauce?

  3. Will this include the MyTouch 3G with the 3.5mm Headphone Jack?

  4. While great to FINALLY see this(and I’ll believe it when I see it), it still won’t keep me from upgrading to the myTouch HD in a month.

  5. My girlfriend will be extremely happy to hear this. She’s been so jealous of my N1 since I got it.

  6. wow, finally. I upgraded to a Nexus one like 6 months ago, and got my lady a G2 last week….NOW they finally upgrade it.

  7. Nevermind. The freaking Original is the only one to get it.

  8. Well deserved. However wished it would come out to the Vibrant.

  9. woohoo to bad this still wouldn’t have stopped me from buying a Nexus last January.

  10. My son will be happy but I can’t believe how long it’s taken for this. I honestly thought it would never get updated.

  11. at least you guys arent a samsung galaxy S user. the best damn hardware made with the shittiest software support available. thanks samsung.

  12. Great news. I just hope it doesn’t break anything during the installation. I would hate to reinstall all of my apps again.

  13. I agree with Johnathan Drake. I’ve been running Cyanogen on mine for a while, and both stability and performance are pretty bad. I hope this update changes things.

  14. They would release this update a week after i upgraded my MyTouch! But its ok my G2 rocks.

  15. When I got my Desire I gave my dad my Mt3G with Cyan 6.0 and I agree, the performance is a bit lackluster. It’ll be interesting to see how this fares.

  16. Did TMobile specify if it’s running the Espresso UI similar to the MyTouch Slide? I thought I had read that in June when they announced the upgrade.

I guess I need to unroot as well to get the upgrade…right?

  17. the person i sold my old myTouch to should be happy!

  18. Alright, this is bulls**t! I have a 2 month old Vibrant and you’re making me jealous of my girlfriend’s 2 year old MyTouch?!

    Samsung, you bastards, come on!!

  19. Hi guys.. but which version will receive the upgrade?

  20. Would that also mean that other branded versions like the Vodafone HTC Magic will get it? And isn’t the Hero a later/more powerful model? I don’t get why that one isn’t getting some.

  21. “The person i sold my old myTouch to should be happy!”

I second that! I sold mine on craigslist so I could get my EVO! haha Geez I was waiting forever for that damn update!

  22. @ksizzle9 yeah…i can’t believe they havent updated that to 2.2 yet. I had 2 different Vibrants and had to return them both due to wifi issues.

  23. Can this eventually enable WiFi-Calling on MyTouch?

  24. Will this eventually give us WiFi-Calling?

  25. WTF?!this phones sucks!!!why is there an android upgrade??

  26. I’m still waiting on froyo for my vibrant

  27. The Girlfriend is excited. I appreciate it Tmobile.

  28. I am very excited but if I a root with CM6 on my MT3G how do I get the update? Do I need to downgrade back down to 1.5 and install updates from there? Guess this makes me only slightly impatient.

  29. While my cliq is still on 1.5 ….. I’m jealous of y’all mytouch owners lol

  30. @lancaster09 You need to downgrade. Then wait. The waiting is the hardest part.

  31. Well, like a year ago, when I got upgraded to 1.6 mine was upgraded the 2nd day it was out.. It will be interesting to see if this happens again. Curious if upgrades are just random or based on when you purchased the phone (got mine when it had been out for about 3 weeks).. I’m not impatient at all to get it. I really hope that it turns out that all the time it took for the update, is because they did it correctly, and make it an even better phone because 1.6 has been pretty solid.

  32. wtffff what ab my mt3gs!!! the slide????/?/?

  33. I really hope this upgrade helps this phone work better. I hate it so much but can’t seem to justify buying a new one until my contract rolls over. I was waiting for an HSPA+ device to come out to take advantage of the faster network speeds, but given my experience with the original MyTouch, I am waiting for an HSPA+ device without that brand name attached. I still fear that even with the upgrade, the phone will still suck since it never worked well on 1.6.

  34. why is android giving shittyy phones good upgrades??the my touch slide please??the vibrant please??these are the phones that need it!!also, why are they puting their good OS into gay ass motorola phones like the charm, backflip and flipout??cmon android!!motorola is coming out with a non touchsreen phone and it is going to powered by android!!learn how to say no android!!!!!!

  35. Yet nothing for the Droid Eris. W.T.F.

  36. @♪♫SAVV♪♫ chill out.
    old customers deserve updates too.
mytouch slide is not even that old? why does it need an update? vibrant, haha i couldve told you the software was gonna suck. touch wiz? give me a break. be happy for other android lovers that cant upgrade there phones every month for a brand spanking new one with all the bells and whistles.

i really do wish my mytouch 3g 3.5 mm would get it though.
    still waiting.

  37. HTC, please make that this update includes the original Magic too!

  38. If you actively visit this site and still own a MT3G thats not running CM6 I don’t know if you deserve 2.2

  39. I really really want this update to happen asap but at the same time I’m worried if the processor is going to be fast enough for all the new gadgets they’ve added and if I’m not mistaking, 2.2 also has the flash in the browser and my mytouch is already freezing once back and forth.

I had a huge ear to ear smile when I saw this post. Thank you phandroid.

  40. For those of you still in doubt

“Only original myTouch 3G devices (1.0) will receive the update at this time. myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender limited edition and myTouch 3G slide devices will receive froyo at a later date”

I wouldn’t worry too much though because as long as one device gets it, there will be a custom rom based on the build dump for everyone else to use.

  41. @Hotmann – I own a MTG and it’s been on CM6 and I hated it! It’s buggy as hell. I never got notifications from Google Voice, every time I went to the Market and select Downloads the entire Market would reload back to the home screen. The most annoying thing was having my keyboard constantly disappearing when I’m trying to type a SMS, search, browser anything. The list goes on. Not that this update won’t have these problems, but I’m very hopeful that it doesn’t since it took so long.

  42. @lancaster09 wait, then flash a rooted stock rom when it comes out. It will be soon.

  43. next year we all will be mad that we dont have gingerbread. lol. my HTC EVO might be looked at as a myTouch by then.

  44. Who knew there was an advantage to having a carrier that sells outdated phones? Jealous Droid Eris owner here.

  45. If you have the newer Mytouch with the 3.5mm headphone jack just wait till someone post the official file. I have no doubt that it will be compatible with it, as the original MyTouch versus the 3.5 MT only has some small differences in memory and other aspects. It is essentially the same phone so don’t fret just do it manual style.

  46. im wiping SD card and slapping sappimg.nbh on it RIGHT NOW lol. restart phone hold volume down and power – follow onscreen instructions. hey look old ass cupcake 1.5 in about 3 minutes flat LOL

  47. i bet the original mytouch will get an update different from the update that mytouch slide and 1.2 users will get. It probably won’t be espresso.

  48. Really, Vibrant owners?! You’re phone’s been out for two months and you’ve gotta crap all over someone else’s parade? Relax, the phone will be supported. Maybe you don’t get froyo so you can go directly to Gingerbread. Is that a good trade for patience? Sit down and wait your turn.

  49. It’s long over due, but I’ll take it. I was in the T-mobile store yesterday looking at the G2 and the Vibrant.

  50. I’ve had this MT3G since August 2009. I think those of us that have had it this long deserve an upgrade. To those who have 2.1 and are complaining……really? Try being stuck on 1.6 stock for 14 months. Rooting was the only way to enjoy this phone at all.

  51. Not fair whatsoever, After reading this I checked out the processor, HMMM! Same as the Sprint Hero, which they say is “not powerful enough” to support 2.2…..I call bull on this…what the hell sprint!?

    And yes…I am a bit spiteful about this… :\

  52. @Hotmann, some of us who are avid followers of this site and of Android are still not interested in rooting and using other custom ROMs. So, don’t tell us we don’t deserve this upgrade if we’re “not running CM6”. And I’ve had mine since July 2009.

  53. @DannyDarko … that’s not exactly true. The original myTouch is a 32B board to heart while the myTouch 1.2 is a hybrid 32a/32b board. The initial problems with making compatible roms with the newer myTouch was the 3.5mm drivers not being compatible with the older kernels so it still might be a work in progress to get this new update ported over for us 1.2 users.

  54. I still got my original one , but I keeping my vibrant

  55. I think all the good phones like my vibrant shold get updated first

  56. why should all the new ones get it first? i own both a mytouch 3g and a vibrant. there is no need to whine and say the new ones need it first. i understand you want it now cuz your impatient and the fact that your phone doesnt have a digit reflecting a greater amount makes you about as butthurt like a lost little korean girl in compton.

it will come to all so wah. in the mean time there is the alternative to that say rooting and custom roms. also what can happen is you maybe tear yourself away from the phone and realize hey look theres OTHER things to do with my life than whine about a cell phone.

dont start bitching saying oh my phone deserves this and companies NEED to do this and that.

FUCK THAT. the carrier sold you a phone. DONE.
they dont HAVE to update shit. they can tell you to crack the battery open and pour the acid in your dickhole for all they care. if you get it great if you dont STFU. they got there money and thats all they give a fuck about at the end of the day :D

/end rant thats just gonna incite the whiners more to retaliate on the interwebs cuz talking shit in person is dangerous.

also the dorks who are STILL reading this and saying “your doing the same thing”….i know. i do it for the lawls. im waiting for all the angry responses so i can laugh like a little school girl. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh roflcopterbbq

  57. this phone sucks!!

  58. Took long enough.

  59. I have CM6 but want this update. Got a mt3g for free so I rooted it. I have a Slide and a G2 but still want just because. How do I go back to stock for the update? Load a certain stock rooted rom? then unroot?

    Jason

  60. this is not for htc magic?

  61. Seems like a hoax. have not heard of anyone getting the update.

  62. wooot fnally:] i unrooted back to official 1.6:] cant wait :D anyone has it yet?:] tmobile you rock hella socks!:D

  63. I got the update last night. Its pretty much everything they said it was going to be. Five home screens they also added an extra app which is car home, you can speech to text now. And they put a new interface to pretty much everything. My only complaint is no live wallpapers, you can download them from the market but the phone doesnt recognize you have it. The way they change the gallery is cool and they added a zoom to the camera.

  64. At least it seems someone actually got it…

  65. SCREW THIS PHONE!!!!

  66. I have those exact same problems Sizzler. I do not want to unroot (mainly because i think it’s cool and i love the blue instead of the green), but i feel like i have no choice. Since i went to 2.2 my phone has had so many problems and is so slow and every overclock and memory app for root that i’ve tried hasn’t fixed it. Guess i’m unrooting this weekend. Hope its fast!!

  67. @Mark – What state are you located in? Just wondering where they started with the updates…

  68. I live in Texas haven’t receive update yet could it be because I was rooted

  69. @Morgan- Most probably, My friend received the update and her phone went all out of wack, but she also had her phone rooted. So she unrooted her phone and everything is now working fine. But what happened with her is the root she did was not compatible with the 2.2 update. So in my opinion I would unroot it because maybe the root you have blocked the update or it most probably wont work with the 2.2 firmware.

  70. My phone was not rooted, I received the update to 2.2 today and it has been screwy all morning. At first, it was probably a good 4 hours before my apps began to show up.

The dialer will constantly force close and text messaging won’t even open up. It took me 45 minutes just to call 611 to find out that they can’t do anything about it. My choices are: a) wait for it to work itself out or b) Factory reset and hope for the best.

I pay for unlimited everything for a phone I can’t use now :-/

  71. Just got my update today. I live in NY but have an AZ phone number (don’t know if that makes a difference). The update is really cool. Someone mentioned before that pretty much all of the interfaces have changed, which is true and in my opinion they are a lot better. I don’t want to reiterate everything that was updated because others have posted it, but just one precaution for anyone who may experience the following issue:
Your PC may not recognize that the SD card is mounted your first time plugging in after updating. The simple solution is to remove the SD card and put it in again. Worked for me so I hope that saves someone else the trouble.

  72. YouTube sux now, I can’t watch videos in peace anymore because it keeps bufferinng or it force closes!

  73. LMAO!!! Bunch of whiners… Like anyone OWES you all anything. Learn patience, learn appreciation. 15 years ago you would have had to have been connected to a walljack to talk to someone farther then 500 yards from you.

  74. i live in texas and still have not gotten mine. i bought it off ebay but i got the txt from tmobile that i was going to get an upgrade. i want it soo bad i cant see incoming calls on the 1.6 and my lock wont work anymore ugh lol sucks booty

  75. Has anyone in the Dallas Texas area received the 2.2 update? I got the message last week but haven’t recieved the update yet.

  76. I was messing with my phone just now and I accidentally downgraded back from 1.6 to 1.5 Will I still receive the 2.2 update.

  77. I haven’t received my upgrade for the mytouch 3g yet… When will I receive my upgrade, because I saw it on,my friends mytouch and I love it….. I wanted to take her phone… please upgrade my,phone

  78. Has anyone got the update in Kentucky yet,I’ve been waiting for 3 months.

  79. I received the update today but my app grid is blank. Where r my apps?

  80. Umm, in Texas, and still haven’t received update. I heard everyone will have it by the end of 2010, and it’s getting kinda close. My email is [email protected]. Someone email me to let me know some more about this. Thanks.

  81. I just got off the phone with Tier 2 T-mobile support. No update as of yet and I have to wait until the end of 12/15/10 (it is 6:15 PST 12/15/10) until they tell me there is another delay or I’m getting it.

    What bullshit.

  82. Got my update this morning… the system looked really nice. It deleted all of my pictures (which previous upgrades/updates had not done) and won’t even let me OPEN or function in the messages. Screw calling, I’m going to the store today and taking care of my POS.

  83. Updated to 2.2.1 and it has ruined a good thing. I only did it because I thought it would play vids in my email. Now I have no email, camera, or apps. (by working w/customer support)The phone was great until I updated. what a mess, I want to smash it! I want my phone back!
