Verizon Launching Their Own Remote Security Solution

6

If you’re not getting into mobile security these days, then you might as well describe yourself as that weird kid that never got picked for sports in gym until the teacher threatened to fail whichever captain didn’t pick you. Anywho, Verizon’s not looking to be that kid as they’ve just launched their mobile recovery solution – simply named My Mobile Recovery. Here is the (admittedly standard) set of features you can expect:

  • Device location using GPS
  • Sound alarms
  • Remote device lock
  • Remote device wipe

The service will be available for most of Verizon’s smartphones – including Android, of course – after customers have enrolled into their Total Equipment Coverage plan through Asurion (that includes the whole nine yards as far as protection is concerned.) If you’d rather not fork over the extra coins to Verizon just to get this, remember that there are some other nice (and free) solutions to be had in the Android market.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. HTC Sense will offer the same thing.

Would be nice if all carriers offered this.

  2. I wonder how well this (or other programs) will fare if you are using a global device.

  3. I wonder if this plays nice with custom ROMs/rooted devices?

  4. My Droid X already does all of this except the device wipe using the Tasker app.

  5. Tried it out. It works as advertised; but does nothing more than the existing apps.

And; it doesnt hide or PW protect the onboard app. So anyone could easily open it and change the gps preferences.

  6. Mobile Defense + rooted ftw…..
