If the members of the Android development community put their efforts together and worked towards noble causes beyond rooting phones, they would no doubt already have solved world hunger, brought peace to all nations, and ended current global economic woes. Instead they would rather devote their energy and work ethic to bringing root to every phone possible, this time gaining super user access on the Motorola Droid 2 only a couple weeks since release.

And who should we say is responsible? The guys over at XDA Developers, duh. This root method is similar to the one initially developed for the Droid X, and hence is not exactly the easiest to accomplish. But if the Droid X is any indication we should be getting to a one-click root method in no time. Don’t ever say it can’t be done. If you want to try it for yourself or simply marvel at the zany things those XDA types do, head over to their forums now.

  1. Root is easy, getting a custom kernel running without chainloading is the challenge.

  2. The ice has been breached. I am looking forward for a more user friendly root method.

  3. Until the underlying flaw that allows the rooting to take place is fixed, all they are doing is reinventing the wheel. Nothing earth-shattering here. Completely expected.
