Samsung Galaxy S Sells 800k In S Korea

12

galaxysSamsung seems to have had an SOS mission the past two months in South Korea – “Sell Our (Galaxy) S”. Apparently the mobile maker has sold 800,000 units over the past 2 months in their native market alone. It’s likely the hottest handset in South Korea, but it’s gradually becoming available around the world.

According to Softpedia, Samsung just passed the 1 millionth Galaxy S sold and they’re aiming to sell 10 million globally in 2010. Quite a lofty goal, but one that is certainly reachable considering how nice the device is and how quickly Samsung has moved on a distribution strategy.

It’s rare that you see a carrier announce one phone, with slightly customized versions for each carrier, on the same day. We’re still awaiting the arrival of some of those Galaxy S versions in the states and there are plenty of people awaiting them eagerly.

We recently reported that Android growth is forecasted to continue at a rapid clip, due in part to the increased adoption of Android by the #2 and #3 manufacturers in Samsung and LG. It looks like Samsung is fulfilling their part of that bargain- where you at, LG?

By the way… does anyone besides me think that QuestForStars should have used a Galaxy S instead of a Motorola Droid in their science experience? Would have been rather poetic.

  1. “It’s rare that you see a carrier announce one phone, with slightly customized versions for each carrier, on the same day.” should it say “..company announce..” instead of “…carrier announce…”?

  2. @phoenix it certainly should.

to the point of the article though, that’s all well and good i just wish that the sprint version nixed the physical keyboard. but enough of that. im glad to see android going so big around the world.

  3. I wish the Verizon version had a keyboard…

  4. How many vibrants have been sold in the united states.

  5. I just got one as my first Smartphone! Today. Everything looks and feels great, EXCEPT somehow I can’t seem to figure out how to answer a simple phone call! Really! Punching the obvious big green phone button, as opposed to the red one, doesn’t seem to work. The manual says to choose ACCEPT.

Great, but I don’t SEE any “accept” choice. Not complaining here, just find it hilarious that I have this great piece of equipment and I cannot answer a call. Oh, I am over 60 but am very tech savvy. Back to my new toy now.

  6. How many Fascinates (Verizon Version) could be sold if only…

  7. Sliding the big green button to the right accepts the phone call.

  8. Send us an activated Galaxy and we will send it to the edge on an upcoming flight!

  9. I have the same problem as Clarke F Millette:

Anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks.

  10. Samsung Galaxy S owner. I didn’t know how to answer the phone call either. Really ridiculous. Thank you for the answer above which is: slide the green bar.

  11. I have had the same problem with mine. I can answer with my blue tooth head set but with out it, there is no way.

  12. So, you can’t imagine how great it was to ask my embarrassing question as to how to answer a phone call. Thank-you for making me not feel so foolish. As yes, I pressed the big green button, too. I think this is another example of the rule we used at work. That is, have someone who doesn’t a lot about the topic read the instructions (or, in this case, is not familiar with or hasn’t used a phone like this try to read the instructions). We’re not alone.
