HTC Desire Available from Telus Today

18

O, Canada! Canadians can finally scoop up a high-end Android handset from HTC as the HTC Desire is now available from Telus. Starting at $79.99 with three year contract, you can grab one of these up if phones such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 weren’t doing it for you or if you’re not too keen on Samsung’s Galaxy S offerings coming soon to the country.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. BTW. The Galaxy S is also available at Bell as of today.
    149$ with a 3yr contract and 499$ without a contract.

  2. How is it possible that Telus is charging LESS for this than the Milestone ($79.99 vs $99.99 on a 3-year contract, $449.99 vs. 599.99 outright)?

    Oh, Telus, your cluelessness astounds.

  3. How bout coming to AT&T?

  4. How can you launch a product but not have it in your stores???, went to 2 store this morning and they said they won’t have them till Monday WTF?

  5. They never seem to lower no contract prices really. Rogers is still offering the Magic for 599 outright. Cheaper than the X10 and acer LE

  6. And still no love for central Canada. HTC touch anyone?

I’m sure they’d do the same for iPhones: not have stock on launch day. Haven’t you heard? Telus loves Android! (So do Bell and Rogers, of course.)

  8. I see that Telus is using a GSM network…would one of their Desires work on AT&T? I’m desperately in need of an unbranded and unlocked Android phone.

  9. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Telus use at&t 3G?
If so, I need to grab this baby for my wife, who wanted an N1 like me, and unlock it and CyangenMod it!!

  10. Yup, Telus uses AT&T 3G bands.

  11. Telus and Rogers have the same bands as AT&T, but their own separate networks. I found ONE store in my city that has it, out of a dozen that I called. The rest said Monday or Tuesday – and they only found out about it within the past week. I’m a little disappointed this wasn’t better planned, but I’ll be picking it up in the next hour or two, once their shipment arrives.

No its not like they ran out of stock, they don’t have any to begin with

I know. That was my bitter sarcasm. My point is that Telus (like all the Canadian carriers) treats Android like the ugly stepchild. It’s pathetic, and they’re driving away customers.

  14. This phone is amazing, everyone needs to go out and get one. The only problem is, a city that has over 150k people in it only gets 8 shipped to it… what’s up with that?

  15. All the stores in my area were sold out before 2pm. I got the last 2 outta 20 from one of the stores but that was after some calling around. One of the stores near by only got 3 in. The guy said he only ever saw the iphone 4 and the BB 9700 bold sell like this one..

I love this device though, well worth the trouble finding one.

  16. @Brendan
Thanks. I guess the prices on the unlocked Telus Desires should come down after the initial rush.

Anyone here using one on AT&T?

  17. Been using this phone for 3 months now in Australia.

Here its only available through one big carrier, on a plan or unlocked for AUD$770

But what the hell, its worth it. Great phone.

  18. i want to import one of these to the states for use on at&t but no one will ship outside of canada! i only live about 3 hours from Sherbrooke, QC but if i can find a way to get it shipped obviously i’d prefer that. anyone have any ideas??
