Droid X Firmware Update is a ‘Go’ from Verizon, Small Privacy Issue not Addressed in Fixes

20

That Motorola Droid X firmware we reported on earlier is definitively on, so those who find themselves new owners of the latest and greatest from Verizon should be seeing it on their handsets as an OTA in no time (that is if you haven’t received it already). It seems the update is the same that hit pre-release handsets last week shortly before the official launch of the phone, and improves and fixes a decently sized list of issues.

One issue showing up a little to late to be addressed has surfaced as a small privacy concern. It turns out deleting call and message logs from your phone will only get rid of them so much. In individual contact history logs the information is preserved. Not a world-ending security risk by any means, but you might be uneasy to know all those things you wanted to get rid of or hide are still living in your phone’s memory. Because Droid does, and Droid never forgets. But really, if the information you are passing around on your phone is that sensitive or compromising, history logs might be the least of your concerns.

  4. Haven’t recieved my OTA either.

  5. The OTA will come folks. Saying WTF? today is like standing at a microwave and screaming because it’s been 30 seconds and your food is not hot. It will come, undoubtedly in a roll out fashion. I haven’t seen any stats on initial sales, but if they sold out, the probably means well over a 100k. That would suggest updates rolling out in batches of 1,000s on up to 10,000 a day. Most will likely have the update within the week.

  6. I ordered mine on the phone at 3:30 pm the day of release and it arrives tomorrow via overnight mail. And I bought via phone because when I got to the store they had sold out their day’s allotment of 60 in just over 2 hours.
