4th of July, Fireworks, and Your Android Phone

12

fireworksHappy 4th of July to all our American friends and to the global community, we demand you pay tribute to our supremely awesome country. I kid, I kid… I’ve played way too much Sid Meier’s Civilization.

Chances are that a large majority of our readership are planning a BBQ, hanging by the pool, enjoying some (hopefully) awesome weather, having a few drinks, and eventually watching a fireworks display. But what if there AREN’T fireworks where you’re going to be? Then bring the fireworks to you and your Android phone!

A quick Android Applications search for Fireworks reveals an application called Fireworks that allows you to put on a little Fireworks display on the screen of your android phone. Tap the screen and watch the fireworks shoot off!

The free version already has 250,000+ downloads and I’m not sure if the 99 cent paid version offers any additional functionality, but I’m going to download the free one as a randomly fun thing to share with friends today. It’ll probably be deleted shortly thereafter, but its one day on my phone will get good novelty mileage.

What Android Applications do you plan on using today?

  2. I’ll leave a shameless plug for my app, Fireworks Live Wallpaper. I haven’t had a chance to update it in a couple of months, and it can be a little buggy on the Droid, but otherwise it’s a great Independence Day companion for your Android phone. It’s very customizable, and only 3k downloads away from the magical 250k barrier! :)

  3. Bobby J. I love your app.

  4. download ‘Constitution’, it has the declaration of independence as well. Americans should read it every year to remind themselves what a wonderful and rare country we are blessed to live in.

  5. Thankful we live in a country where we can chose to purchase Android devices or the Iphone device. Wait did I say Adroid devices and Iphone device (they only have one?). What a country and I chose ANDROID. Happy 4th everyone.

  6. I definitely recommend Bobby J’s Fireworks Live Wallpapers!!

I tried that other one, it’s not that great.

The live wallpaper is awesomesauce, although you won’t get sounds (not that you want your wallpaper to make noise, but it would be an interesting option!)

  7. @cabbie – American’s need to read it at least monthly to remind them how awesome the USA is. I read it many many times and just waiting to apply for my citizenship. :)

  8. yes, every American should have a smartphone so that they can have the constitution, federalist papers and other important foundational documents at their fingertips.

  9. Amen, you’ve all said it all!! Proud to be an American!

Yeah… It’s about time we hear more about the contest! I really hope this isn’t a scam. I’m doing my best to win this thing!

  12. Fireworks was originally aimed at New Year’s (when I downloaded it) but it’s fun anytime.
