Sprint Voice Service Drops Out in New York City

Sprint can’t catch a break with the launch of their hottest handset of the year, as voice service in New York City is apparently down for the count. Not to say the HTC EVO 4G is to blame, but it certainly isn’t the best way to go winning over new customers who have been on your service for less than a week. Data service still works fine if you need to stay in the loop. If you’re in the Big Apple hang tight, we can’t imagine Sprint would let this issue linger too long.

  1. That is why Im staying with the best network VZW, no matter how cool the other phones are. VZW will have better phones too later on.

  2. @IamWhatIam
Thats nice but VZW has outages sometimes to.

  3. Every Carrier has moments like these. its not like it happens all the time..

Sprint is by far the most underrated network .. IMO is the best value..

  4. @Jerry agreed. Sprint works great and they all have problems.

LOL, twice within 6 weeks in the same area? Yea, verizon is really the perfect network.

Bottom line, all networks have these type of issues.

  6. I’m sure that it will be back online soon.

  7. I’m a sprint customer and I have been a verizon customer as well. All carriers are always in dispute which is better and really it just depened on who you ask. As far a overall service etc. As for me both are the same really just a few differances. I’m not a a phone geek but I do use my phone a lot sprint so far hasn’t let me down plus the family unlimited data and mobile to any other mobile carrier unlimited is a big plus for me.

  8. I’m sure that Sprint is probably dealing with a sizable influx of new customers after the release of the EVO. Every carrier experiences outages. I’ve had no problem with Sprint.

  9. This should have been a non news story, a lot of folks in New York reported they were still able to make calls. Everything is back to normal. Today Verizon had data outages in parts of Florida and Boston, why isn’t that being reported?

  10. I just made a call in downtown Manhattan (5:06 EST) and there was no issue…

  11. I’ve been making/receiving calls all day in the East Village. Was this supposed to be all of NYC? If so I haven’t seen a problem.

  12. Sadly, I went from wm6 to an iphone 3g, to a mytouch 3g rooted and carrier unlocked on at&t. The only thing I ever hear about is people complaining how at&t is the worst network there is. Nice to see the rest are just as crappy as everyone claims at&t is ;) Maybe all the at&t bashing will come to a halt as every provider gets the new hot device that cripples their network.

  13. Sprint Fixxed the Problem at 4. A Voip Switch went out. So they had to rerout calls and ppl experienced outages in the process. It happens…more so to At&t.

  14. You guys are very lucky in san francisco at&t calls always drop in the sense that you dont even want to talk to the other line and just text them, at&t even wonder why people are lowering their monthly minutes?! Hello drop call! So now they get loyal subscriber on data capping what the F, this is how they treat customers, dont even bother trying they even invrease termination fee from 100+ to 325$

  15. And a monthly payment on iphone is 100$-120$ you can buy a used car for that so you wanna complain more baout sprint you guys are nuts

  16. Informed said… “Today Verizon had data outages in parts of Florida and Boston, why isn’t that being reported?” Exactly!!! The morons don’t have enough common sence to realize that EVERY carrier will have outages from time to time. Why start false rumors and try to make an issue of it when it happens to ALL US carriers?

Hello???!!! Those at Engadget need to think before they speak. This will reduce the number of bogus claims and false alarms to the public.

  17. @IamwhatIam…..well said well said y0. You see all the guys with the less-er networks say oh well that happens with Verizon to….ha ha but you and I know what’s up that is why we have the true NOW network and truly are the network with MORE BARS IN MORE PALACES lol

  18. I have used all carriers and just dropped AT&T after 3 years and I love Sprint’s service.

Too bad every single outage for every carrier isn’t reported as news here!

  19. @Mensah You’re a doofus. “You see all the guys with the less-er networks say oh well that happens with Verizon to….ha ha but you and I know what’s up that is why we have the true NOW network and truly are the network with MORE BARS IN MORE PALACES lol” um you’re the now network with yesterday’s 3G? Think first. Also you do realize that there is a friendly relationship between Sprint & Verizon? you don’t see them attacking each other. They also have contract in place that allows sprint customers to use their network “For Free” if there are no sprint towers around. “FOR FREE” That’s included in our unlimited plan. So if you have more bars in more places so do we. Thanks!

  20. Sprint voice has been out in the Tampa Fl area since 6:30 this evening. 4 hours and counting. The data and text are still up and running.

  21. at home we have a use car that is a Nissan Murano. i love it ~
