Today, Samsung’s officially unveiling the Samsung Galaxy i5500 – otherwise known as the Corby phone – and it’ll be headed to Italy. We first heard about the low-end device in the middle of last month, and its leak was followed by a series of confirmations through the standard certification outlets a phone normally has to go through.

It’ll be running Android 2.1 with a custom interface by Samsung (we’re not sure if they’re calling this TouchWiz, but it’s reminiscent to what we’ve seen on their touchscreen feature phones). Other specs include a 2.8-inch QVGA LCD touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, a 600Mhz processor, 100MB of ROM, and will ship with a 1GB MicroSD card.

You’ll also get the standard set of 3G connectivity bands bands (HSDPA supported). Wind and TIM are said to be the operators that are offering the device and its pricing will sit at 199 euros (there was no word on if this was contract pricing or not). If you’re in Italy, expect to be able to snatch this one up sometime next week.
