Samsung Galaxy S Headed to Asia this June, Should Get Froyo

7

CNet’s reporting that the Samsung Galaxy S will be seeing a launch in Asia sometime this June. Considering some preorderers in Europe may be getting this phone on the first of June, we could be seeing Asia get their slice of the pie around the same time. It’ll be available for S$1,098 (which comes out to be around $775).

This follows the news yesterday that our German friends could preorder the Galaxy S for 649 euros, while those of us in the United States might be seeing it come to T-Mobile soon, as well. The biggest surprise is that Samsung states it will be updated to Android 2.2 sometime in the future, but considering the run-around they’ve given regarding another Android phone of theirs, we’ll keep our excitement reserved, for now.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. It really won’t matter whether or not that phone comes with Fryo or Eclair… Samsung phones have a horrible track record, and I really could not see people paying top dollar for this phone, when HTC has 2 incredible android phones that will surely get Fryo… The N1 and the Droid Incredible. It’d be a shame to put such an incredible OS on a phone from a company that has so many bugs in their phones.

  2. I am waiting for a high end phone for T-mobile. Either this one or HTC Sidekick Twist (or emerald project) will get my money. Although the EVO is still looking very tempting, even if it is on the ancient CDMA technology.

  3. I JUST HOPE IT COMES SOON TO TMOBILE, I’M CURRENTLY WITH SPRINT BUT THE WHOLE $10.00 FOR A SERVICE THEY HAVE YET TO COMPLETE AND IS NOT EVEN HERE IN MY AREA IS NOT FLYING WITH ME, AND TRUST ME IS NOT ABOUT THE $10.00 IS MORE OF A PRINCIPAL THING,THINK ABOUT IT, HOW CAN A COMPANY CHARGE YOU FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN’T PROVIDE YET? I CAN UNDERSTAND IF I COULD GET 4G HERE IN BOSTON BUT IS NOT HERE YET AND STILL THEY WANT US TO PAY ANY WAY, IS NOT GOING TO BE ME, I LOVE THE EVO BUT SPRINT NEEDS TO THINK THIS TROUGH AND I KNOW THAT I AM NOT ALONE ON THIS ONE.

  4. Remember when Samsung came out with the Instinct? They said it was going to overtake the iphone, and look what happened… piece of crap. While the samsung galaxy s might have great battery life, it doesn’t mean that the phone won’t be buggy. My first touch screen phone was the Samsung Glyde… it was actually taken off the market because the phone was so buggy(this wasn’t an android phone, but still you get my point). Also look at the samsung behold 2… another phone that is just awful. Samsung would have to make tons of improvements in order for me to even consider looking at one lol.

  5. There is no way I would pay that much. Specially iPhone is going down in price, granted this is much better phone. Hopefully AT&T will have afforadble contract price

  6. It was first sold in Singapore on 28 May, exclusively at SingTel with the 3G Flexi Lite (a bundled 12 GB data + voice) plan for SG$398 (approx US$285)

I’ve tried this phone, and quite seriously, while it is really very responsive, the customized UI obfuscated the whole Android experience. Even the phone settings are all over the place. In fact, it feels more iPhone-y than Android-y.
