WIND Customers: Get Your Hands On A Compatible Google Nexus One

9

Throughout the iPhone OS madness, Google brought it upon themselves to silently update their mobile storefront to include WIND Mobile as an official carrier which supports the Nexus One’s frequencies. All you need to do is head over to Google’s online store to order yourself a Nexus One compatible with T-Mobile and you’ll be able to get set up on WIND without a hitch.

If there are any Canadian fellows on WIND out there, will this new-found support entice you to finally buy a Nexus One? The fact that WIND doesn’t have “a gazillion phones, just a handful of great ones” should make this news rather pleasant for people looking for a bit more in their phone selection.

[Update]: Thanks for the correction, guys! Sorry about that.

[Thanks, IntoMobile]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. you mean without a hitch right?

  2. Uhm, I thought WIND runs the same AWS band as T-mobile.

  3. From the Nexus One website:

3G coverage on networks that use the 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, and 2100 MHz frequency bands (recommended for use on AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility and TELUS in Canada)

3G coverage on networks that use the 900 MHz, AWS, and 2100 MHz frequency bands (recommended for use on T-Mobile in the US and WIND Mobile in Canada)

  4. “All you need to do is head over to Google’s online store to order yourself an AT&T-compatible Nexus One and you’ll be able to get set up on WIND without a hitch.”

How does having an AT&T Nexus One help you on WIND. WIND uses AWS. AT&T does not.

  5. They do, you would need the tmo version for 3g on wind, AT&T version would only yield voice.

  6. Need a small correction on your post:
WindMobile uses the 900 MHz, AWS, and 2100 MHz frequency bands and so those on WindMobile need to purchase the T-Mobile friendly version not the AT&T one.

This is also mentioned in Google’s own help page:

    Cheers,

  7. Mark and Nima are only partially correct.

The AT&T Nexus 1 would not even allow voice on Wind in Canada as they use 1700 (not 900) and 2100 MHz for 3G data and Voice. An AT&T Nexus 1 on Wind would allow roaming on to Rogers 2G (Edge) network though.

  8. Wind is not yet available across all major cities in Canada, like, Vancouver. But there are plans and I am looking forward to their service, and prob get a Nexus One phone.

  9. Wind on N1 working great here in Edmonton.
