If they tie GPS functionality into it, then even if you don’t know them but they do have this program, that would greatly reduce the number of photo sets to scan through and compare. Creepy, yes, but we’ve been going down this road of creepiness for a long time.

I think you all just need to take a step back.

1. Face recognition techniques have been getting better and more robust – I honestly think this app would perform pretty damn well at its task, on the condition its data set is finite i.e. you only have a set number of faces to recognise.

2. This goes against the idea of using public photos to do this, while possible in theory, it would take far too long computationally to find a random persons face on the internet for details.

This idea is awesome and the UI is executed excellently, I think it has limited use (from what can be seen in the video) but could have some great features added to it + if they open intents to the app, other developers might find some cool stuff to do with it as well :-)

Ok… so if it does compare it to peoples public albums where they have identified themselves… then if I’m going to get all up in someone’s face… wouldn’t I be better served by extending a hand and saying “Hi, I’m TF. Nice to meet you. What’s your name?”…

This could be the beginning of something very controversial… immediate identity retrieval of anyone you happen to snap a picture of. I’ve seen concern over talk of this functionality being built into Google Goggles, and I have to say I agree with it.

Their demo is not very convincing. Like “TF” said above, it *looks* like it can only recognize people that you defined. You saw how he dragged-and dropped social icons on his picture. You would have to do that for everyone for this app to work.

So basically it won’t search your facebook, or contact book, or whatever …

While it certainly is cool, it doesn’t seem to have much in the way of function. Basically, it sounds like it will tell you who X person is so long as you already knew who X person was previously and have tagged them in a prior photo or across several photos in an album… like how Picasa sorts thru faces… so this is doing…. nothing?
