Alcatel OT980 Slides In With Android!

by Anthony Perez on February 1st, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Fresh from France, here is some tasty footage of the Alcatel OT-980 running on Android OS 1.6 with:

  • Wi-Fi, GPS
  • 3G
  • 600 MHz processor
  • 192 MB of RAM
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • MicroUSB plug
  • MicroSD memory card slot
  • 1150 mAh battery flesh out

The OT-980 will be a base line entry-level device with a price point cheaper then the HTC Tattoo. It boasts an apparently very responsive on screen keyboard as well as a slide out hardware keyboard. Anyone in France ready to pick up this baby? Rumored to release in on Orange within the next four or five months. Nice to see some manufacturers bringing in some color, anyone a fan of the orange?

And oh yeah, noted resemblance to the Palm Pre, right?

    “..cheaper THAN..”

    Just so you know.

It appears they took a good look at the palm pre form factor. I wonder why the U.S. is so slow to bring low price point android devices over to the states if in fact it does come out pretty low.

Glad to see some diverse phones and devices in the android family. I’ve been waiting to see a truly entry level device outside of the Tattoo

I like that this phone has a different design to it than most android phones. I really like the Pre’s design, but this is the first android I’ve seen like this. Let us hope for more new interesting designs.

Up those specs and release worldwide, love the form factor

design changes are good, yes. specs are pretty poor though.
