Will it be as popular as the GoogleWave?
Everyone has to have one….
----------------------------------------------------

It will be at LEAST as popular as Apple's "Cyberdog", Apple's "taligent", Apple's "Pippin" (LOL!), Apple's "Macintosh Portable", Apple's "Apple Newton".

But they still make great products, today, yea? Google has just begun.

coolMANDINGO: "I’m not cheap but why the hell would I pay an addtl $15 or so for the same thing? "

because you get what you pay for. With t-mobile you're paying for less coverage and reliability. AT&T is also simply not acceptable if your phone conversations are important. It's not just about voice quality but the difference between a call going through and not going through at all.

@rob seriously open your eyes its all android 2.0 not the phone!
@ 2FR35H i tottaly agree with you them other guys dont know crap about android they try filling their mouths up with shit they cant even confirm.
@ray yes the droid is like the cliq difference is the firmware idiot look up your stuff.
Android is the best so will this phone watch all ya droid ppl gonna change to it… oh i forgot ya cant ya have verizon sorry.. haters.
--------------------------------------------

1) Your post is full of grammar errors (and seriously, 'haters'? LOL
2) If you're referring to the Droid when you say "all android, not the phone" what part of fast processor, bigger screen, much higher resolution, and physical keyboard did you miss? Regardless, the Droid has secured itself in the minds of new-to-Android users, and has broken the barrier to new users. THAT is why the Droid isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
3) Droid is like the Cliq except for firmware? Is that why Droid has (again) a faster processor, a bigger screen, with higher resolution than an iphone?

Yes. You have successfully confirmed you can throw insults, and post garbage on the internets. Congratulations!

FYI - It's taken me MANY phones to find the Droid, and the way it handles things. This supposed 'google phone' doesn't entice me one bit.

And, oh yea, 'lil_ana' - NO ONE TOPS VERIZON'S REACH into the mobile mainstream. No one...And I don't even like their business practices, but that's a fact. Verizon opening the floodgates to Android with the Droid is kind of like Toyota bashing domestics into the ground with their reliability - it might not be flashy, but it's reliable, with all the features you could want that works well consistently.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. The Droid movement has made me excited to remain with Verizon... but I'm not dazzled by the Eris or Droid. This is definitely the phone I want... but not sure about switching to t-mo (att is out of the question). T-mo guys - how is current 3G speed?

Not excited about this at all, except that it might give devs more users to create apps for, which is good for all of us Android users. I'm still very much happy with my Droid and extremely pleased with the latest update and the how quickly it came. Keep em coming, Ver-oogle-ola.

@Chris you're right! That's why I haven't switched yet. That $180 from verizon is crazy. They charge $20 for the text and then $29 for the data. Damn with tmobile u get both for the $35. I'm not cheap but why the hell would I pay an addtl $15 or so for the same thing? Tmobiles phone selections do suck but damn paying over $110 a month for phone service I don't think so.I really hope that tmobile gets the nexus at the $199 price. I'm tired of my g1.

Its not the OS that is making this phone famous. Its the fact that this phone will be carrier independent and will be GSM/CDMA right from the get go that makes this phone famous.

Sure they are only "dogfooding" it with T-Mob and ATT but there will be a sure bet that if Google wants to break the carrier barriers, than they will make it CDMA. Also from what i heard there will be no need for a voice plan with the phone since it will be able to use Google Voice with it. Making it that much affordable to have such a fancy phone!

@Phil - How does it have a slower CPU? the Acer Liquid and the X10 both have the same Snapdragon CPU as the Nexus. The Liquid is even downclocked from 1GHz to 768MHz.

Why are people writing so much when we all know so little about this phone?
And why is it such a special thing that it will be sold unlocked? Any phone be bought unlocked (at least in Sweden). Also it sounds plausible that Google could sell it cheap and make money on ads/services.
Either way, the Nexus One/HTC Bravo will be my next phone.

I don't get it...so this phone has android 2.1, may be cheap and may have an OLED screen.

It still has a slower CPU than both the liquid and X10...And the same amount of ram as both. It doesn't have a physical keyboard like the droid does (liquid and X10 are the same as this google phone).

The only good thing about it is that if it is only $200, it will push android out into more people's hands. But that is it. Not really that fancy...

Unlimited calling, web and text on VZ is $160 a month.
Sprint $100 a month.
T-Mobile $80 a month.

In the DC metro area, I would venture that T-Mobile works in about 1/2 the places that VZ does.

If you have a job where you are not in the same location every day, T-Mobile ain't gonna hack it. I regularly see T-Mobile Users have ZERO BARS were that damn map says that they should have full service.

AT&T is way better then T-Mobile around here. But Data does slow at points during the day and calls drop. Especially if you are trying to hand off between towers. My co-horts at work all have AT&T and if they are in a car I am gonna get 3 or 4 calls to complete a conversation.

Sprint seems to croak as soon as you go inside a building. But if you have it set to roam to VZ it will work. Call quality goes in the craper fast thou.

But all that aside. I would love to see reasonably priced flat rate calling. BUT... WHO CARES WHAT IT COSTS IF THERE IS NO SERVICE!

WiFi is a good bridge when you can get on it. But if you need your phone to work and its not just some toy... then the cellular companies can keep right on charging.

So you can get the phone for $200... great. You still need a carrier to give you service.
