HTC Magic, Hero, Tattoo Get HTC Sync 2.0.8 Update

24

If you’ve got an HTC Magic, HTC Hero or HTC Tattoo and use HTC Sync to keep your data… you know… in sync, you’ll be happy to know that HTC Sync 2.0.8 is now available for download

sync-update

New in 2.0.8 are media features that allow you sync your contact pictures with their contact information, your phone time with your computer’s time and vice versa, and automatic syncing on plug-in which helps you eliminate a few steps.

Unfortunately, from what I can see, HTC Sync doesn’t officially support Windows 7 so if you’ve got it and give this a try, let us know how to works for you. To download and get installation instructions, hit up this page on HTC’s website.

  1. I only care about update that bring Eclair. A Droid update to fix a some Droid bugs would also be nice, although the camera AF will fix itself on 11/17.

  2. I’ve got Windows 7 x64, and while it installed, if didn’t install the necessary driver for the link to my Eris. However, all you have to do is Google the issue, and you’ll find download links for the x86 and x64 Vista drivers, which work perfectly. Granted, now that I see what HTC Sync is, I don’t know that I’ll ever need to use it, but at least I can tell you that the Vista drivers will work. =)

  3. The application is a .exe file, that is, can be run only on Windows Machine. I am a Linux Ubuntu user and cannot do anything with siuch an application. Now, Windows is the most wideaspread OS, fair enough, but Android is a Linux-based system, so, what if HTC executives get their acts together, for once, and invest a few days to provide Linux users with the same software they provide Windows users? Cost? I guess HTC saved quite significantly by using Android instead of Windows Mobile, so, it is just about being fair. HTC is not.

  4. @Alex .. anyone who’s running linux should probably have a dual boot on their computer.. as a linux user .. you should know what that there are quite a few programs that are not compatible with linux.. and the new programs come to Windows first

  5. It seems that even the Verizon Droid Eris gets the 2.0.8 update, but the Sprint Hero only gets 2.0.5?!?

    Anyone know why this is?

  6. Hey HTC… we don’t care about Sync… We want Eclair

Where is Android 2.0 for our HERO’s?????

Stop wasting time with Sync software and lets get out a 2.0 Sense UI release!!!

We are getting tired of waiting.

  7. It’s about time. 2.04 was atrocious, they shipped it out with crazy debug code that spawned new processes every 30 seconds or so, leaked handles, and eventually froze any machine it was running on for more that a few days.

  8. I just come from cleaning up my XP notebook. I have spent some time to find out what services made it really slow, and the reason was: HTC Sync, which I installed 2 weeks ago. There were a lot of accesses on the hard drive after startup. So I uninstalled and I really don’t feel like installing it again.

  9. not for the Vodafone Magic!

  10. Alex,
Don’t abandon Linux! There is a fix, just have to install a few things. Follow this link!

  11. Yes im just waiting for eclair (2.0) i really hope its going to be rolled out to the HTC Magic. want to get decent bluetooth support from device to device.

  12. This is STILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not working for me. Get the device error, no I don’t want to sent a report to Redmond, yes I’ve tried installing the frigging drivers, nothing works – XP SP3. Roll on Android 2.0, maybe the expanded BT support will finally allow me to sync with Outlook. Anyone know if PBAP will do this?

  13. If I try to install the HTC Driver it comes with an error-box that says that I’m missing the XP_XP86 something? I have Windows XP.
Does anyone know what is wrong?

  14. How on earth do I put Eclair 2.0 onto my HTC Tattoo? I can see the download on the android.com site but no idea how to get it onto my handset!!!
    please help!
    thanks in advance!

  15. I am also interested in how to install eclair 2.0 on my htc tattoo. The phone is perfect except that i can not transfer files because the software does not comes with e roor access. Please if anyone have already tried it give me hints how to upgrade to eclair
    Thanks

  16. transfer via bluetooth that is

  17. To Jerry- Its true they are apps that you have to use dual boot to windows when you need those pesky windows apps that their developers refuse to bridge the gap to the greener side and of course if you are gamer, but they are few and kind for specific uses, or for advanced users that their job demands them to use windows and have to dual boot, but don’t forget for most part if you are a normal user that tired to pay a lot of cash to update to newer versions of apps every six months or windows operative system every time it ships a new spin off of the same thing in a new dress. Or how about this poor mac users that want an android phone instead of iphone?! It should out of respect to its linux roots to have it available to all 3 platforms, freedom of choice.
To Alex- have you tried installing the .exe through Wine if yes let as know how it went, and i hope by now you have let karmic koala (9.10) to take over your pc/laptop.
To Stephan- would that app in ubuntu/linux distros work for android htc phones?

  20. I have an HTC Magic and I’m running Windows 7 32bits, the installation of the program apparently works. When I plug my phone on my comp, it mounts without any problems, but I can’t sync my phone. HTC Sync doesn’t recognize my phone although I have the little Refresh sign with HTC Sync next to it in my notifications. No matter what I try I can’t sync my phone at all.
    Can anyone help?
    Thx.
