I got the enV touch back in June. I like it, but its speaker isn’t loud enough.
The other line on our plan has a crappy phone, fairly new, but is always dropping calls, and having bad quality. I read that you can get it at a disounted price if you get the e-mail plan. Does that mean even though it hasn’t been a year since I upgraded, if I get a e-mail plan, can I upgrade for a discount?

My 2-yr plan is fairly new and I want the Droid. How can I get a good price? If I pay full retail can I then sell the old phone? If I lose mine can I get a 1 yr plan cost for a droid? I have 4 lines and one is due for a new phone, can I use that to get the best price? I’d love a comment that is more than just speculation…

I have the same question as AFI206 – My NE2 isnt up until next year (Jan 2010). Is there an annual upgrade or another discount to get the DROID for $200 or at least $299?

all smart phones on Verizon require a minimum $29.99 data plan. there is no way around it, as soon as you activate the phone on your line it gets automatically added. unless they changed that policy per Google’s request but i doubt it since they would have to allow any smartphone with wifi the same benefit.

So when they say to get the most from DROID… customers will need to subscribe to the Email and Web for Smartphone plan, does that mean you can get the phone without the $29.99 monthly access plan, and use wifi when available (like an iPod Touch, that’s also a phone)?

@CrPercodani I believe that ordering it through telesales (over the phone) means the rebate is still required, but I’m honestly not sure.

if you were to cancel your line early and then resign how would they be losing money? you would pay an ETF, and resign for 2 years on a new contract plus you would lose your number. before you ask “well if i pay the ETF can’t i keep my number?” the answer is no. if you reactivate your number it reinstates your contract where it was and if you already paid your ETF they will credit it back.

they wont allow you to extend on top of and existing. it would cost them more money to start allowing people to do this. they would have to completely rewrite the contract and ETF policy to reflect it. plus next year when something better comes out you would be crying about not being able to “grow with the technology” again.

BigRed, I have a question for you. I left VZW a few months back and got a $100-50 coupon off ANY new phone (depending on what plan I select). Now it says to get this deal I need to order over the phone, when ordering over the phone is the rebate going to be instant like it is online?

@Big Red Thank you for the response… are you with Verizon?
Basically my issue is the fact that if it does cost 600$ for me to outright buy…i could cancel my line for $X.xx and then rejoin and buy it for 200 with a new 2 year contract. And this would be cheaper for me than to outright buy it.

Now i bet this costs Verizon more money after man hours and paperwork is done. Along with a dissatisfied customer and I would have to waste of lot of my time as well.

OOOORRR Verizon could just give it to me(us!!!) at the 200$ price and I sign an additional 2 year contract, making my contract 3 years at this point. This would cost them and me less, and they would get an extra guaranteed year out of me.
I dont’ know, just seems to make more sense to me to help people rather than impede their ability to grow with the technology.

really, stealing from their customers? they dont have to give you the mail in rebate at all. if this was released on any of the other carriers it would be more expensive. Verizon pays more than $299.99 for the phone and recoup the money over the course of the contract and $299.99 for this hardware is a great deal. the reason they do mail in rebates is because people forget. you may think it’s shady but it’s smart business, because no matter how much you complain people are still going to buy this phone. if you are too lazy to fill out and send in the MIR or forget then it’s your fault not Verizon’s. if you dont want the MIR then order it online and wait a few days.

I don’t really understand the complaints about the mail-in rebate. How hard is it to remember to mail in, especially with the $100 motivation? So you have to wait 6-8 weeks for your rebate. If that $100 is going to break the bank, maybe you shouldn’t be buying a $300 phone, you know?

Anyway, like half-a-dozen people have already said — order online = instant rebate.

NO MAIL-IN REBATE if you order online! It’s in instant rebate. Big_red is an employee so I’m sure he knows what he is talking about.

So all of you complaining about how “shady” the deal is, the only reason you have to go through any hassle is if you must purchase it in the store.
