Anyone knows an approximate or definite release date for the phone? I was about the buy the new Archos 5IT 500GB when I saw this, so my money went straight back into my pocket waiting tentively. Any reply will be appreciated.

I'm very interested in the hardware (if running Android) however, I'm a bit concerned about a couple of things.

1) Amazon now offers it for sale, but implies that the GPS only works with Archos maps. http://www.amazon.com/Archos-500-Internet-Tablet-Android/dp/B002NEGTOC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253163310&sr=8-3

2) You have to tether it to your current mobile phone to get data on the fly.

In short, I can deal with the tethering issue as long as T-Mobile doesn't mind. Other than that and the possible GPS issue (does it have all the cool Android hardware - accelerometer, GPS, compass, angle detector, etc) it sounds like the ideal piece of hardware to me. 1 GHz processor, 500 GB storage, HDMI out, docking station, 5" display, etc. I'd rather it were a phone, but I'll take what I can get since no carrier seems to think that US customers deserve a decent phone.

i'd buy it if it wansn't archos. they are the worst company (customers service wise) i ever dealt with. Took me LITERALLY, 3 months to get a replacement product once for something that died under warranty. And that was only after i called their corporate office and started leaving angry voicemails on random people's lines.
