Android Phone Guide Launches!

16

If you haven’t clicked that “Phones” button in the Blue Nav Bar above… DO IT! We’ve officially launched our Android Phone Guide:

Hopefully this will not only help you keep track of what Android Phones are currently available, upcoming and rumored but also give you comprehensive information on each phone including overviews, specs, reviews, pictures, videos, news and forums. Here is a list of all the phones currently listed in the guide:

Available Android Phones:

Upcoming Android Phones:

Rumored Android Phones:

Staying on top of ALL the information, updates, news and rumors won’t be easy so your help is greatly appreciated. See something wrong? Tell us! Have more information? Let us know! We’ll try to keep the guide as up to date as humanly possible.

Instant EMail Notification!
One feature we’re REALLY excited about is the instant Email notification. If you visit the page of any rumored or upcoming Android phone, you’ll see at the top you can sign up to be instantly notified when the phone becomes available for sale or pre-order. The carriers themselves sometimes offer this service but don’t always do a great job following up… Vodafone sent out their HTC Magic notification 3 days late!

More Features On The Way
We’ve got a BUNCH more features for the Phone Guide on the way that we think you’ll be really excited about but we couldn’t wait to tell you what was hiding underneath that Phones button. For quite awhile it was a page “in development” and now we think its pretty darn cool and hope you do too. Of course we’re all about constant improvement so leave your suggestions, opinions, lovemail and hatemail below!

Stay Tuned…
We’ve got another HUGE announcement to make in the coming week or two. I don’t want to spill the beans or leak anything out just yet but I think you’re going to be really excited. It is a key component to Phandroid and AndroidForums that will… well… you’ll see ;)

  1. Suggestions: List all the internal or speculative names for a given phone, i.e., Google Ion / HTC Magic / myTouch 3G. Also a comparison spec table would be useful.

  2. Keeping track of the various naming conventions is definitely tricky… hopefully we’ll find a clear way of doing this as time goes on but more thoughts/opinions on this are welcome.

Phone comparison is a feature we’re planning… this will definitely be added in the coming weeks! Thanks for the suggestions!

  3. It would be nice to have a “Location” drop down so we can track per continent, etc. (i.e. – US vs. EU vs. Oz)

Also, “Carrier” filter on Available Tab doesn’t appear to be working on IE7 (not that it makes much of a difference right now). (And no cracks about using IE7 either, I’m at work right now and can’t use Chrome, FF, etc.) ;)

  4. The Lenovo OPhone does not seem to be on the list of rumored smartphones.

I assume that, since they are not smartphones, you will not be tracking the GiiNii Movit Mini, Archos PMP, Touch Revolution’s NIMble, Acer’s Netbook, etc.

  5. The Haier H7 is also expected to be launched in Europe in September. There is a CNET article here:

    http://asia.cnet.com/crave/2009/06/16/haier-s-android-handset-to-be-out-in-september/

  6. Looks great Rob. Really nice feature to have one place for all the current and upcoming Android phones.

Now, please feed the hamster who’s powering your web server. ;)

  7. There are also photos of the rumored Dell Android phone floating around.

  8. Can you list all the developer phones (http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html) and internal ones (i.e. the one Google gave to all its employees for x-mas and the one they gave at the IO conference)?

  9. Hey Rob Jackson, what will be under the Apps tab, very curious to know.

  10. Great addition to the website

Might want to specify Resistive vs Capacitive more clearly (in its own field) because it is specified for some phones but not others.

Res vs Cap is very much a deal breaker for a lot of people.

  11. nice page. all relevant information all in one place.

  12. Youre missing a lot of phones. You should have made this a wiki.

The Qiji i6 and the Sciphone Dream G2 wifi (for about $100!) are just two examples that are currently available for purchase.

email me at fotofloster at g mail if you wish to purchase either of those phones wholesale.

  13. Yeah, don’t forget the Haier H7, Lenovo OPhone, and that Dell prototype that’s been making the rounds: http://theandroidsite.com/2009/06/15/is-this-dells-smartphone-running-android/

  14. Couple of minor gripes

    a) Acronyms. It’d be nice to have a pop up advising what exactly AMOLED is (for those who don’t know), or have a glossary somewhere on the site that explains these things. Linking to wikipedia would be easier (but maybe not allow the pop-up

    b) News articles don’t include the date they were published.

    c) Awesome work overall, just needs some tweaking to be completely awesome (comparison of up to 3 phones, location specific information, etc)

  15. Yet another Android handset: the ZTE solar-powered Android handset, to be launched Q2 2010. There is an article, with photos, here:

  16. A side by side comparison would be great with all the data you have
