It seems one of the largest gripes over the G1 has partially (if not mostly)subsided today – the G1 is now shipping with an obligatory USB to 3.5mm headphone adapter. And although it’s not the most minimalistic version that could’ve been used, I’m getting a sneaking suspicion that new G1 owners will be more than pleased with the chance to listen to their music through a pair of only “slightly” better headphones.  I’m sure your ears will be thanking you later on. Now, about that carrying case…

Is it me, or are the default USB headphone earbuds rather large?

Like still “Quarter-sized” sponge buds in the ears. Also the crazy wires that come with. One wire is like 2 inches and the other 22 inches.

Potential buyers (and owners looking to schmooze and upgrade) should be aware that the reason that “it’s not the most minimalistic version that could’ve been used” is because it’s got a microphone and multi-function button built into it. Yeah, the wire is a bit long if all you want to do is listen to music, but given the device is a phone, it is actually a very useful design.

This form factor lets you listen to music on your high-quality headphones and then take a call without unplugging them from either the device or your ears to hold the phone up to talk. I do not know how the iPhone handles that, but I can tell you that I’ve paid money for the mic-with-3.5mm adapter on other phones for this very reason. It was great for long runs and bike rides.

Now if we could just get the device to activate voice dialing on with that first button push …

I JUST WANNA BE ABLE TO HAVE EARPHONES IN MY EAR AND CHARGE MY PHONE AT THE SAME TIME AND HAVE EAR BUDS THAT FIT IN MY TINY EARS! BUT I STILL LOVE MY G1 REGARDLESS!
