What if Google has a plan though? I mean I notice google has a lot of software for the iPhone Google earth, google mobile app, google search in Mobilesafari and google maps with street view just to name a few but if they have something bigger in store for the Android OS??

don’t know about the future but for now the app is not available for the G1…so how are they going to flip users when they don’t develop their apps for their platform?

It is important for Google to continue to produce excellent apps for multiple platforms. Call it a play from Apples book but the “Halo Effect” is something Google will do well to leverage. Much like Apple is able to flip many PC users to Macs via the iPod/iPhones “Halo Effect”, Google will be able to flip iPhone users to Android powered handsets.

As much as I agree with you, Google has a lot to gain by promoting G1. The TV commercials is done by Google for the G1 not tmobile. The back of the phone is branded Google. So where will they build their coolest apps and promote it. On the iphone? It just doesn’t make financial sense. No matter how you slice it. Steve jobs will never make a mistake like that. I own an iphone as well as a G1.

For Google its not just about Android. Its about the overall picture of search and advertising. Unlike MS they aren’t going to spite their moneymaking partners and customers just to push their product. No matter what once Android is on a few handsets it will have a bigger installed based than the single device IPhone. I don’t believe they have too much to worry about.

I do with though that they would integrate ALL of their apps into Android.

Why are they not promoting their own platform…. while sell the iPhone when they have their own phone?
I think it is the dumbest move ever.
