You and JB are correct. To further add, I did what JB did, sign up online, but I have a second G1 and needed to call to activate that one. I also called to make sure I wasn't going to get double charged. The most annoying thing about this, lack of automatic switchover and no notification to any customers who just paid $180 for a new device. Be aware it can take as a long as 2 hours to get data service back. Thanks for posting this Rob. You and JB are correct.
