I saw that commercial earlier on the front page of HTC.com, really liked it (but thought the "er-er" thing was and is stupid.) Glad to see that both T-Mobile and HTC are parading the G1 on their front pages, makes me feel all warm inside.

That's the point. The iPhone doesn't have a team... they have one great, superstar player. You can compare the iPhone to the T-Mobile G1 all you want... but comparing the iPhone to Android doesn't make as much sense and it seems thats what everyone is trying to do.

Apple will never have a full lineup of iPhones but Android has HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony Ericsson, etc... all contributing players to the Android team. Some of those, at some point, are bound to be superstars. Whether you think the G1 is an MVP or role player is a moot point although I believe the former.

"Apple can swing for homeruns all they want. Remind me again how far the San Francisco Giants got when Barry Bonds hit 73 homeruns in one year? Thats what I thought."

This is a silly analogy to make, and an incorrect one. If every player on the Giants was like the iPhone, they would all hit home runs. Obviously, the best role players in the world couldn't beat a team who hits home runs at every bat.
