what we really need in the states is a cdma android phone which also is an unlocked world phone. for a couple of reasons. 1. yes, true that gsm is the international standard. but 2. gsm sucks in the states, and particularly in the tri-state area. as much as sprint blows in other respects, the service/reception is great. this is why I don't have an iphone, cause I actually need to be able to use my phone TO MAKE PHONE CALLS.

I don't see how Google could unleash Android on anything but a GSM network in the U.S. After all, GSM is the only international standard. T-Mobile is so small. Let's hope that "the Deathstar" (AT&T) prevails.

Why would Google want to come out on one carrier first? The one thing people have been winging about with the iPhone is that it is vendor locked. Even if they do, why would they do it on a CDMA network? If they bring it out on GSM -> WCDMA they have a much larger reach than the (basically) US-only CDMA market.

But when? When is it to be launched? I have heard September but that just seems impossible if a release hasn't even happened yet.

Bummer. I will wait until T-mobile gets it. I was seriously considering getting a Moto Q9C with Sprint, but having learned about their customer service issues, I am now determined to wait for T-mo to get something that trips my trigger....and that could only be the Android phone or possibly the BB 9000. Sprint is not going to get my business.

Ryan, I don't think you have to worry about Alltel getting an Android phone. Trust me when I say that THEY want to carry an Android phone just as much as you want to buy one. Anything that'll give them an edge over the likes of AT&T and Verizon has to be a huge focus for them.

I bloody well hope that Alltel gets in on this early. I know they always seem to be lagging on the innovative hardware front but I LOVE the service and support I've got from them over the past 5 years and I'd hate to have to leave them because they don't offer any android handsets. That being said, if they don't have any android handsets by the time my contract is up I will not hesitate for a second to switch carriers.

Yeah, I have Verizon and I'm not excited about jumping ship for Sprint.
But Sprint uses CDMA so we might be able to hack it to work with Verizon.
However, I really don't want to support Verizon if they don't support Android...
Life is so hard...
